It's really giving me the shits.

We've got Bode, who wasn't really picked as a crumber and has been the best option we have available. Porps is too slow, Vince too dopey.

When every bloody club I can think of seems to just take a punt on a young flashy crumbing kid near the end of the draft and reap success, we constantly just pick up these in-between, wishy-washy utility types. Again. And again. And again.

I mean, FFS, what I wouldn't give for an Alwyn Davey. He has been awesome for Essendon, his pace and commitment are electrifying.

What is it with our shortsighted obsession with utilities? Are we shooting ourselves in the foot looking for Craig's much-vaunted 'flexibility' but lacking players to fill a role with any form of quality?

A Colossus in every position sounds great but is not too feasible.
The games and numbers Rhys Archard is racking up sound like crumber and offensive tackler worthy to me.

One problem there - Sellar got passed over and came up in the draft when we weren't expecting it and jumped, then Essendon used a 2nd round pick on Davey when no-one was expecting it. No use in crying over spilled milk, it's gone.

I can’t be too critical of this one because up until the halfway point of last year I honestly thought he wasn’t AFL material. He was just traveling at league level but for whatever reason he exploded in the second half of the season to put his name up for drafting.

However you can’t say that we didn’t have our chance to draft him. He was running around in the SANFL for 3 or 4 years, so it’s not like we didn’t have our chance. He nominated for a few drafts and no one took him, including the AFC. But as I said he barely showed anything until last year. When he finally decided to show what he was capable of it was too late for us to nab him.

I'll tell you what though; he was a very ordinary SANFL player for years. Barely kicked more than a goal a game and often had less than 10 possessions. I guess he prefers the bigger stage.

But look at his body shape now Drummond. It bears no resemblance to the little roly poly that used to roll around in the Snaffle.

He obviously decided last year to take his footy seriously at last and as you say, came good in the 2nd half of last year.

He'd be many kilos lighter now than last year IMO.

But just maybe is right.

We get the ball into our forward lines umpteen times each game to see it cleared as easy as pie because we do NOT have a genuine crumber.

That has to be a priority in this year's draft.

Fair call that. He obviously knew he was in the spotlight for scouts so he decided to put his talents on the table for all to see. And according to his weight from one of last years Football Budgets he’s shed 5+ kg’s.

I know I’ll cop it for this because I’m perceived to be so biased, but as I’ve said before Austin Wonaemirri has got to be a focus for us come draft day. He’s only 18 and has excellent potential as a goal sneak. He applies excellent defensive pressure and he bobs up with a goal or two a game. He's exactly what we need. He'll be playing in the U/18 Championships for the NT so make sure you tune in.

Both Davey brothers were running around for Port Adelaide in the SANFL as early as 2000.

I remember Alwyns games for the Magpies late in 2002, after his brother had set the league alight, that he was this plumpish small kid. Hes come a long way since then.

That'd be this NT? http://www.heraldsun.news.com.au/footy/common/story_page/0,8033,21872212%5E19897,00.html
They'd want to improve slightly.

Queensland 10.12 (72) defeated Northern Territory 4.7 (31)

Goals: Queensland: Daye 3, Fewkes 2, Savage, Rolfe, Enright, Gibson, Roughsey. NT: Campbell, O’Shaughnessy, Farmer, S.Rioli. Best: Queensland: Hill, Rogerson, Rolfe, Headland, Smouha, Zorco. NT: Cadona, Gugliotta, Measures, Campbell, Stokes, Sharples.

Not featured but it seems he is a decent artist :P
