I always use black, because most black pens look the same, so if you stop writing and continue later (with another pen) it'll look the same. However, there is a lot of variability with blue pens so if you come back with another blue pen there will be a noticeable difference. and that would shit me.

Blue (and white) > Black (and white)

I think blue looks neater, at least with my handwriting. Not a big deal these days though.

I always seem to use black, probably because my favourite pen comes cheap in black but has to be bought in bulk in blue, but I don't mind either. My favourite colour to write with is actually green; I never used it for assignments when I was at school - but any personal writing I get done tends to be in green.

I mostly use black, because when I started work some photocopiers and fax machines were still a bit dodgy at reproducing blue ink. It's just habit now though. I tend to use blue when I am annotating a typed document.

There has probably been a study done to determine whether blue or black ink makes the reader happier.

I normally carry 1 black & 1 blue pen to work.
I do a lot of writing & I'll mix it up blue 1 page, black the next, I have no real preference.

I remember in primary school, maybe grade 2, they made everyone get a pen license. People would have to use pencil until their handwriting was deemed neat enough for a pen, and then you would only be allowed to use a blue pen. My writing is always neater with a blue pen too, and I wonder if there is some latent pyschological factor due to that.

I never got my pen licence. I just started using a pen when I moved into the next year group.

Thanks to all the typing I've done since leaving school my handwriting is now worse than it's ever been.

I never got a pen license either. I just started using one in about grade 3.
I also never got a pen License way back in 1973 , I still have not forgot that I blamed the Classroom we were in that year a “Musset Hut” cold as hell in a Tassie Winter.
