With the media coverage in recent weeks over player numbers (ie: What should Geelong do with Ablett's famous no 5? And young Ben Matthews from the Swans taking up No 4 this season)I was wondering what number do you consider to be your club's most famous.

I think at the Kangaroos, our most famous number is 27. It was worn by Laurie Dwyer, stories I hear about him are legendary, then there was Keith Greig - no doubt the best wingman to ever play for the club, followed by Darren Crocker - who's career was devestated by injuries, but nevertheless still gave the club 10 years + service.

Number 1.

The captain always gets this number at Port Adelaide so it must be the most famous number.

Gavin Wanganeen orignally wore number 1 for us. Now that Matthew Primus is captain he has changed from his number 2 guernsey to number 1 leaving Gavin Wanganeen to wear number 4 like he did at Essendon.

Captains traditionally wear number 1 at Port Adelaide.

of course at hawthorn the number 5 would have to be the most famous due to Peter Crimmins..... now worn with distinction by Daniel Harford.... only been in circulation for about the last 7 years or so....

Maybe number 15 has been worn by the most champions, Peter Steward, Malcolm Blight and Ross Smith are three. But the number 20 still has that aura around it from the Schimmelbusch days.

At Melbourne, certainly number 31, Ron Barrassi. Also number 2 with the great Robert Flower. Of more recent times it would be number 3 , Garry Lyon and number 11 Jim Stynes.
