The decision to award Gary Ablett his mark over Gary Pert at the MCG on Mothers' Day, in 1994. Even worse was the decision to award it the 1994 Mark of the Year.

Good try no doubt and a close call too, but if he controlled that, I'll be a monkey's uncle.
How does it compare to SOS's Mark Of The Year a few years previously ?

Great leap (over Gary Pert ?), and as soon as the ball hit him in the guts it bounced out, as he started to somersault. Somehow, the mark was paid.

Was at that game. He had me absolutely screaming and tearing my hair out at his incompetence and what looked dangerously like favourtism. Even Dons supporters were saying the same thing. Undoubtedly cost us a spot in the Grannie. Realistically, Brissie woulda done us over in the GF, but you never know. DG is an absolute disgrace to his profession....
Was also at that game with my brother who is a mad Hawks supporter. As much as I am one-eyed Essendon, that game was a hollow victory and I actually felt sorry for my brother leaving the ground that day. Hawthorn deserved to make the 2001 GF not us.

What a crock! I'm glad you're not umpiring or you'd be sure to end up in this thread.

Take another look buddy, just on the 4 minute mark.

Hits him flush on the chest and he grabs it with two hands. It comes out when he is completely upsidedown, a fraction of a second before he hits the ground. Most likely as he holds out one hand to prevent him from breaking his neck.

Edit: Check out the 16 second mark for Ablett's 'attempt'.

Worst umpiring decision ever (even though noone actually saw it) was the decision to allow Goldspink to be an umpire. Even if it had been known at the time of his commission that there would one day need to be four umpires per game there must have been someone more capable to endorse.

I reckon the worst decisions all of us have seen are those that are made supposedly by umpires but whose strings are pulled by the rules committee, so that some boofhead from the AFL can "take a stance". For example, Todd Curley's suspension in 2000(?)for contact with an umpire (Nicholls), who bullsh*%ted to the tribunal about what happened and was supported to the hilt by the AFL stooges, so that even though we need more of these goons on the field, heaven help any poor bugger who runs into one, while trying to avoid a runner and a trainer at the same time.

What's the bet that noone else this season gets what Johnson from Freo got during the NAB cup for an unintentional bump that caused no damage- now that "a stand" has been taken and a scapegoat found.

The worst decisions I've ever actually seen are any of those that have been based on the fanciful and deluded notion that Chris Grant would ever transgress the rules of the game.

I'd like to get your opinion on the worst umpiring decision you have ever seen. It could be in any grade, or league, but I'm sure there have been some absolutely abysmal decisions paid by those twerps in white, orange, yellow, red, etc.

To get the ball rolling, I'll list a couple of absolute howlers I've seen.

1. Darren Milburn vs Richmond: Milburn is pinned up against the boundary line by his opponent, bounces the ball with one hand, runs around his opponent, picks up the ball and goes to run off. Umpire runs in and pings Milburn for dropping the ball, when at no time did his opponent tackle him.

2. Corey Enright vs Western Bulldogs: Enright is on the wing, running to the ball with an opponent. Taps the ball with both hands into the ground so it bounces in the direction of Darren Milburn running past. Umpire runs in and pings Enright for throwing the ball.

3. Gary Ablett Snr vs Richmond: Ablett is playing at full forward. Leads out from the goal square, with his opponent running behind him. Opponent slips over and is out of the contest. Umpire runs in and pings Ablett for pushing him in the back.

There's probably heaps more, but they're the ones that come readily to mind.
I worry about supporters that claim the three worst decisions they have ever seen have all been coincidently decisions against their side.

I couple of years ago I was watching a adelaide vs carlton game. 3 Carlton players jump on the ball make no effort to get it out even though there is no one within 5 metres. Adalaide players were standing around laughing at them with there hands up and they got the free kick. Shouldn't be holding the ball considering they werent tackled.

Every time we play the Bummers in melb. Shocking.
Take last years game at the TD. Umpires boss admitted 12 decisions went against WC. I think this was very conservative...

So Milburn had the ball, and 'bounced it' while at the same time running in the other direction around his opponent. Then he picked it up off the ground?

He had the ball, then he got rid of the ball, then he picked the ball up again?
How did he get rid of the ball?

I think you'll find, if you peruse the rule book a little, that there is no such law as "dropping the ball". I didn't see the incident, nor did I see the action the umpire made when calling the free, but I have a strong feeling Milburn got pinged for 'incorrect disposal'. Just a guess.

Off the top of my head; Rd6, 2004 Essendon vs Sydney. There were probably a dozen bad decisions that day.

Seaby takes an uncontested standing mark in the goal square, Port defender runs at him and lands a fist in his face 2 or 3 seconds after the mark, Seaby starts bleeding profusely from the nose, umpire bounces the ball.

2004 (?) AAMI.

For me, the worst umpiring decision that I've seen for my club in the last couple of years would have to be Round 21 2005 Vs Melbourne, the free to White against Skipper, cost us the finals for something that was clearly not a free kick. I don't think I've cried for so long over a footy match in quite a while...
