macca ended up being a laughing stock at sanfl level, couldnt get a kick towards the end of 2009 and never recovered, became a head ducker looking for frees to which the umpires woke up quick smart

As much as I hate Glenelg I'd hate to see them fold however if worse comes to worse they need to merge or relocate (Mt Barker anyone?)

Not even a merger? Eg West Adelaide-Glenelg. Makes sense.

South West Adelaide FC or Southern Tigers FC, Adelaide Blood Tigers FC, Southern Bloods FC.

They need to expand outside the metro area and lower their standards. They're not exactly the second best comp in the country anymore and that attitude has cost them.

No need to expand, quite the opposite, let the metro clubs run junior programmes, get rid of reserves, reduce the costs of all clubs and it will survive quite well. If I was Glenelg I would pull out of all juniors and reserves, reduce costs and live within your income streams.

No need to run the clubs like it has 30 years ago.

But then again the comp has lost its interest with the AFL compromising the integrity of the comp so may be better for all for it to cease to exist, I do enjoy getting to an amatuer league game anyway, all be it a far less standard.

Its the SOUTH AUSTRALIAN "NATIONAL" Football League, not the Adelaide Football League. If Glenelg is to fold merge then a regional or semi regional club needs to be brought in eg Gawler or Mt Barker. In fact I'm pretty sure the Gawler Central Football Club are the Tigers - and Gawler region and Barossa would support a move for their own team. The pros outweigh the cons.

I do agree that the reserves should probably go. Merge the reserves with the Under 18s.

They wont need to they own their licence, they just need to control their spending, it seems obvious that all juniours and reserves can go and draw upon the amatuer league for players.

But this is a radical move and if they are to do this it may rely on the AFL starting a resrves comp, so you will then have 8 SANFL teams drawing upon the amatuers for their players. At the moment the SANFL arent selling their juniors for enough. The other option is to sell the u/18 juniors being drafted for a premium to AFL clubs after all they are listed on the clubs and to be granted a transfer will require a certain $$$$ figure. Maybe $100K for a player, so if your club develops 5 players in a year its an easy .5 million into teh bottom line. Consider the amount from say Glenelg running around in the AFL, shoudl easily have an extra $1 million if not more, which would not only service their debt but pay it off.

Glenelg Football Club invested $3.4m in developing both a function centre and upgraded membership facilities in 2002. Whilst trade has been sound, it has not been able to generate sufficient funds to enable the Club to reduce its overall debt. The subsequent interest payments are crippling placing the Club’s very future at risk.

The elimination of the outstanding debt would place the Club in a significant cash positive position. This would enable it to invest in its core business of football operations and infrastructure.
Glenelg would not want to move.

Effectively the Council invested $2 million into it, as they also own the Oval. There will be dealings with the council to ensure monies arent lost by themselves considering they own the asset the bistro sits on!

Glenelgs membership base and crowd numbers are quite high compared to other SANFL clubs, it was a poor decision to try and develop the Holdfast Bays Oval in an attemot to generate $$$. If the Debt is wiped by the council and the $1 million bank debt can be serviced until distribution of the Footy Park monies become available they will contiune to operate. The council may not wipe the debt but may sit back and wait a number of years.

We were raped from the start by a money hungry SANFL - as was your plastic franchise. Only they gave you the extra soft lube for your arses, where as they plunged in dry.
:D
Excuse #119
Wash, rinse, dry repeat.
If only the Port Power faithful didn't abandon your franchise you would've turned a profit.

We turned a profit in 2004 and 2007 (our grand final years and only two decent seasons). Says a lot unfortunately.

My point is that if your supporters had've turned up back then like they have been recently you would've made more money at Footy Park than what you are now at AO, instead the ones that were attending back then turned their backs on the club and walked away.

Because AAMI is a hole, even when our crowds were high during our decent years there, we still didn't make the black marker. Think we broke even once or twice.

Interesting, if Sturt supporters hadn't turned their back on their club in droves so they could hold hands with Norwood, Glenelg and North supporters and form the crows, you might have had your own AFL team. Now you're relegated to a nothing club that's struggling for money

Jeez knob, that's a long bow. What supporters turned their back? Sturt get better attendances that the whored out Power reserves year in year out. Talk about turning your backs! When was the last time The Port Power Reserves won a flag even with the free gift of not having a salary cap.
You're loose with the truth regarding the advent of Adelaide coming into the AFL. If it hadn't have been for your self serving jizz fest we could've actually argued for a better national competition as compared to the Victorian centric shit we all have to put up with now.
Remember that next time you think Port Power are eating an AFL shit sandwich, you c***s dished it up on a platter for them.
