Just blatantly not true. I'm 23, and can say from my own experience as well as many of my friends that it just isn't true. If you genuinely believe it is, then I'd suggest you're hanging out with the wrong people.

I feel sorry for you

My GF of 5 years earns more than I do but we split our earnings. Loves going to the footy, loves to come out drinking and get's along well with my friends. There is no arguments if one of us wants to have a girls/boys night. Her parents are extremely generous. She had never been snowboarding in her life but picked it up after 2 days and ventured out on a couple of black runs with me. Loves going to the West Coast B&F with me. Has similar aspirations as myself.

All in all a great girl and one I'm lucky to have met

Good idea.

My net worth 2 years ago was essentially zero, despite 5 years post University work. That said I traveled extensively, had some crazy nights, finished a post grad and lived abroad.

Over the last two years it's getting up to where it should be for someone almost 30..Note quite there yet but time is on my side!

Self employed? How is your super balance so low? To aggressive over the GFC? I just would of thought someone with the substantial asset base like yours must of been making some pretty good money and therefore have more in super by way of employer contributions?

I don't earn a wage, rather only have dividend income and capital gains.

So you are a share holder of a company? Should investigate maxing out your concessional super contributions as a way to limit tax. Again assuming your income is quite high.
