First up, I know I'm like 3 months behind but, seriously the new logo is terrible.
For a few reasons...
We are not the Geelong Cats.
We have straight hoops.
And, a mean cat? Bullsh-t.

I had a little bit of a fiddle, I know it looks like I stole it off the clash jumper, but trust me I made it ages before that. Anyway, here it is, Geelongs Logo of 2008....

Well, discuss.

Well done GG. I haven't posted for a while but I'm not particularly happy with the proposed new logo/shield either. If we must have one featuring a cat, yours leaves the official ones for dead - straight hoops, meaner eyes and the word CATS removed, the word GEELONG in larger font size.

We are the Geelong Football Club (est 1859) not the Geelong Cats Football Club (dreamed up by some committee in 2007 - a premiership year for gods sake!).

Also the separate 'very special' guernsey logo recently revealed to members in a GFC flyer, featuring what looks like a wandering pussycat flicking its tail, is about as intimidating as a wet sock. Do we really expect our players to wear this proudly over their heart?

Anyway why do we need two logos/shields/trademarks? More money I suppose. Not from me but. The old shield still works for me, just like my old VFL-era Cats scarf worn proudly at this year's Grand Final.

Tradition ain't what it used to be!

Apologies for sounding indifferent to the whole logo debate, but in the overall scheme of things, is the logo that much of a big deal? I couldnt care less what it looks like as long as the club is successful and continues to conduct itself in the right way. Surely people are going to buy the merchandise no matter what the logo looks like?

Maybe its just me then...:D

I have a cats logo screensaver and I am starting to think the 2007 logo is actually pretty boring. The new ones are growing on me.

Yeah, apologies about the 200th thread and the lateness of it. But, some people actually have a life and can't get on daily. Also, I thought it deserved a new thread because I reckon it looks very very nice. But, I left that for youse to decide... And, yeah, I whoever bagged the word Geelong. I just found the boldest font and whacked it there I was just trying to point out that the word Geelong should be the main one.

But, at the end of the day we are the Geelong Football Club, with straight hoops. And, no one is going to argue that.

had a little fiddle....

As much as I'm still not a total fan of this logo, and I've also agreed with everyone about the 'wavy' lines above the eyes, I have to say that after watching everyone tinker with it, I'm becoming partial the original design.
For what ever reason, I'm not sure how, the wavy line does seem to work.

Once you take it away, it becomes a little too symmetrical.

See... the thing about new logos is - everyone hates them. Always. You'd be hard pressed to find a logo that was immediately loved by the masses. The other thing is - people really don't know what they like, the logo you like the most at first glance is often the one that is 2 things - 1. Most familiar to you, therefore with less point of difference to existing logos. 2. Not the logo that as the greatest longevity.

We also have a dilemma having a cat as a mascot, because, cats really aren't that tough, blasphemy I know, but unless it looks like a lion or tiger, it's going to look like a housecat.

I'm not saying I love the new logo, and I definitely prefer the traditional style uniform logo. There is a long list of examples of people being "afraid of the new". I'm also not saying people are always wrong to hate something, I hate the new MelbourneFC logo and I'm pretty sure that's not going to change, but logos are a funny thing, and your first reaction isn't always the best guage.

The good thing about both new logos is they have more spirit then the old one, and far more character.

Agreed. They need time to be digested. However the thing that I don't like is that it says 'Geelong Cats'.

I actually quite like the design of the silhouetted cat logo. It's got I bit of class IMO. (......then that's instantly undermined by reading 'Geelong Cats'!)

Well done I do like yours better. The new one is growing on me though, I couldn't stand it the first time I saw it and now when I see the old one it seems kind of dated which is wierd cos I love that one.
