There are players who get older and their best looks further away each game. There are guys who will never live up to an unexpectedly impressive first season or two. Or guys who plateau and never really capitalise on what they could sometimes show.

But what player managed to bag a big contract after a huge year, only to never do anything close to it again?

Who looked like a star and then... just... went to s**t?

Less harsh, who got crippled by injuries?

Interested to year.

The big one for me is Adam Cooney.

In Cooney's first 6years he didn't average less than 89 super coach points.Best in his brownlow year 108.Not sure the player u use as an example is even appropriate.

Marc Murphy to an extent.

2011 saw him receive an AA, 19 Brownlow Votes and the AFLCA Award.

He's been consistently good otherwise though, this thread surely means complete flash in the pans.

Rhys Palmer for mine. Had one good year, beat Cyril for the Rising Star and averaged 23 disposals, kicked 10 goals in his first year of AFL footy. Had the world at his feet.

Imagine having that kind of first year and fading into obscurity afterwards, playing at 3 clubs before finally being delisted by a bottom of the ladder Carlton.

Matthew Lobbe, absolutely killed it in the 2014 season as a crash and bash ruck that suited Port's game plan completely. Ryder came along, also ending his career at Carlton.

Brett Ratten in 1999 somehow managed to set the season clearance record at a ridiculous 265 for the season. No one has gotten anywhere near it, the next highest tally being JPK with 74 (!!!!) less.

Shannon '2018 AA Captain' Hurn. Pretty much every phantom AA side has him in a back pocket/half back spot with a big C next to his name.

Pretty big jump in your 13th season to go from a guy that's never made an extended 40 man AA squad to being a near unanimous choice for captain.
Don't think Hurn fits here. He's had a number of great seasons - AA or not.
