I won a contest to ride on the fist float but then it was too wet next week and it would have sunk into the ground. I wasn't too concerned for myself as I was in my 40s but the other person who missed out was a young girl whose dad bought her a ride on the float for her birthday. I can't remember seeing the float again so hopefully Port did something for her like get Tredrea to visit her.

I heard an auctioneer talking on ABC radio sometime last year about footy memorabilia and he said that footys are one of the least popular memorabilia pieces, simply because of the pain in the ass of having to constantly pump them up so that they don't look deflated.

So probably worth more to you than to your bank account!

Interesting! Wasn't really looking to sell it at this time, was only wondering what it could be worth. Even after research it's hard to tell as you see signed balls all the time just not signed balls used during the game.

To be honest i've never actually had to pump it up, that's how it's been since I won it 15 years ago so that's a plus I guess.

Sorry to intrude on your board! Just thought I'd chip in, I've been collecting match worn stuff for a couple of years now and unfortunately what TeeKray said is pretty accurate. I've never seen memorabilia hold a worse value than balls. Unless the sherrin is signed by a full 22 premiership team and coach (say it was signed by the 2004 team) or a rare limited edition ball (such as the grand final replica balls or the premiership balls) you're not going to get a huge sum for it, even if it was used in a game. It is a pretty cool item though considering it was used in a showdown and comes with the display case, I'd keep it considering you probably paid a considerable sum for it, it might be worth something largish in a few years if memorabilia prices go up and Port win a grand final/member base increases.

Pretty sure you're supposed to keep the ball inflated at 69 kPa (it should be printed around the valve of the ball) to stop deterioration of the leather etc, might be worth pumping it to that number once a year (not 100% sure on the number, I believe it's 69 kPa IRRC, but check sherrin I don't want to stuff your ball :p)

The most recent ball I've seen sell that was used in a match was a Collingwood match ball that they used in round 22 vs Geelong, It was also a special ball with the 125th Anniversary logo printed in gold which wasn't available to purchase to the general public, came with an official AFLPA COA and was sold direct by the club for $319. it didn't come with any signatures, however it was sold by the club with the largest supporter base and was a special ball unavailable for public purchase, you would assume it would of sold for much more than $319.

Going through a couple of past auctions for you, in 2012 a match ball that was used in Alastair Clarkson's 200th game as coach and was signed by clarko sold for $561. A ball that was used in round 7 between Hawthorn and Sydney that was signed by Hodge (captain) and Clarko (coach) fetched $351.

This is EXACTLY the kind of information I was hoping to get regarding this item and i appreciate you going out of your way to put together a detailed and helpful response.

I actually won the ball as a door prize (complete in case) back in 2001 so there was no outlay on my part and any money I make on it if i was to sell it would be a win. However it's a pretty cool piece that I wasn't actually thinking of selling, rather to gauge it's current worth.

I may also need to pump it up now though haha.

No worries, I love memorabilia, some people think it's clutter or for kids, but I it's pretty cool having something historical or that looks nice on display.
