I did it once when very, very low on fuel and a long way from home. I was staying up at Khancoban and I'd gone up for a drive towards Thredbo (there's no fuel between Khancoban and Thredbo) and rather foolishly so, considering how much fuel I had. So I basically coasted back down to Khancoban from Dead Horse Gap (a constant downhill) using neutral as much as I could.

I don't know if it made much of a difference, but I ended up making it back to Khancoban - just.

It's also not like you could ever get done for that in practice. How would you?
Only in your test or if you had an accident and they raided the car's computer or something. I doubt it'd be the first concern if you had an accident though.

What about when you're on the Hume per say and you're coasting at 110km for 300 miles? You still need to engage the clutch every 50m?
The clutch connects the transmission to the engine. When you push the clutch pedal you're disengaging the gears from the engine while you select a different gear. It's also disengaged when you're in neutral, which is why if you're a dickhead and put it in neutral and then try accelerating, it makes a **** load of noise and you don't go anywhere (may have accidentally done that once ).

It seems to be more to do with speeding up or changing lanes in an emergency, because you don't think to put it in gear if you're distracted by idiot drivers. (oh look, full circle!)

i bet you dont use aircon when its 47 degrees either - save fuel

open windows do the same job...

be funny to do a test, does the drag caused by 4 open windows equal the same as having them shut and using the aircon?
I'm pretty sure it's more fuel efficient to use the aircon when going 70 or above because of the drag that even one open window creates.

I only use the windows for climate control if I jump in the car after it's been sitting in the sun, because it lets all the hot air out more quickly than waiting for the A/C. I'm told windows cause drag which kills your fuel economy, and the buffeting noise does my head in so I usually keep them closed. I've noticed though that if you have the vents open and the A/C off you often get a bit of fresh air flows in anyway, which can work depending on the weather. 47° probably still wants the A/C with the fan at 3/4 haha

I like to think if it's 47 degrees that I wouldn't even be driving anywhere. That's too hot to do anything but sit inside with the aircon on full blast.

Black Saturday 2009 was 47, which is the hottest day I've ever experienced, and I went nowhere all day. That's just too hot.

I think this was proven true on Mythbusters

Had many an in car barney with wifey as I'm more of a window down when it's nice outside person while she's more a windows up air con person (something to do with it blowing her hair around or some shit).

i used to try never use the brakes... just gear down to slow the car.. then my mate said... sure save money on brakes, just blow your clutch, worth more...
Yeah don't do that. Haha. If you watch more than just one car in front and get off the gas early then that's probably better than constantly jumping on and off pedals. Then downshift when you're going slow enough to do it without over-revving.

I just liked hearing my tx3 crackle and pop on gear down...

Beery will understand

Haha that's actually awesome. I know though for a fact my company and direct competitors pay well above market rate.

Yeah, where I was at the time were ordinary. Were I am now, much better. I'd be hard pressed to do that now, though having been there for 20 years helps.

People who stink.

I've just got off the train at Essendon and between Kensington and here I've been sat next to by a guy with dreads down to his arse and to put it politely, they ****ing reeked.

I'm 0 from 2. Just amazing stuff.
