What should happen to Andrew Embley?

Personally I would like to see him come into the Eagles for the last few matches and get Woosha to tell him that it's crunch time, and he really needs to perform, or forever be a "that embley guy".

I think he has the potential to be a good player, not outstanding, but good, if he doesn't step up by the end of this year, and if the Eagles give him another chance next year, and he still does nothing, I'll be the first one to wave goodbye to him.

What does everyone else think should be done with Embley who has underachieved all year?

He will have a number of clubs interested if he is put up for trade. Has super potential and is only 21. If another club were interested and had something interesting to offer, a trade could benefit both clubs. I think the best thing for him is to go to another club, but the best thing for the Eagles is to trade him only if the deal for someone is really good.

Why does he drop so many sitters? Confidence? Does he hear foot steps and crap himself?

I think he's a really good young player who is well worth persisting with.

He did well on the weekend (by all accounts) when Woosha dropped him to the WAFL and thereby issued him with a challenge.

He must acquire the Wilson/Lewis/Langdon/Matera skill of defending the forward 50 and keeping the ball in there if he is to establish a place as a HFF. I think he can.

He may also be able to play in different positions - it will be interesting to see what the coaching staff do going forward. For example, Hunter, who everyone was slagging earlier in the year, has been played largely in defence by Woosha and for the last few games has clearly been in our best 22.

Embleys been in the side all year and has been average; if the right trade deal came up then it might be worth considering it

Maybe he needs a bit more time to get fully adjusted to the game, look at Headland, he's been at the Lions for 3-4 years i think and is only now starting to play well

Embley's age works in his favour. There seems to be the belief amongst footy supporters that if a player isn't performing by the time he's 20/21 he'll never develop. But have a look at Wooden, have a look at Johnstone and Headland, etc. A "man" at 20yrs of age is physically still immature (believe it or not), it can hardly be expected for them to be performing consistently when they come up against supreme athletes who's bodies have fully matured.

Embley has potential to burn. If we persist with him he will become a 150 game player. But maybe a few more games in the WAFL would be better for him.

I cant believe that we can be so hard on our young and up and coming players. Give them time to develop. Please. Embley has so much potential. I think he just needs time for his game to develop.

Our team is never going to be made up totally of superstars. Embley is pretty hard at it. We need these type of players to create space for the likes of Kerr, Cousins, Wirr, Fletcher, Judd etc. A team of little blokes and tall timber will never do any good. We need the hard nuts as well.

I liken Embley to Langdon in the manner they play. Karl was very handy and annoyed the hell out of the opposition - and the fans.

If we trade Embers I feel he will just be lost in the system. A dam waste.

Ozzult..I barely ever see West Coast games in Tassie. Never ever..I've seen two this year...st kilda and the tigers..how great..i saw 2 losses! I have been bugging my mum and dad to get austar but they just say NO NO NO!
I really rely on ABC grandstand for coverage... dont get many full games but most weekends I get the last quarter and a half from subi...which is always good cause as we know its been a happy hunting ground for us there!

It does suck Ozzult...it sux very much!
Why do I go for the eagles?
Ok here we go....My grandad in WA always supported the eagles and ever since I can remember he has been a HUGE fan of Pete Matera. I would be in WA every summer so id chat 'footy' with my pop and we'd talk for hours about Pete Matera. Sadly Grandad was very sick with prostate cancer. He battled for a long time..every winter was the worse for him. I believe now that the Eagles doing so well in the early years is what kept Grandad going. Living in Tassie it was tough but every sunday nite Id talk to him and we'd talk about that weekends game and how well we were doing and who deserved to be axed. I kinda got hooked so now Im an Eagles Freak...Im a huge fan! The saddest thing was my grandad died in August 1994. We'd been chatting a few weeks earlier and I said to him..can Roo win the brownlow? He said..Yep..by a mile! Now we all know that Pete came very close to winning it that year and that the boys brought home the cup! After the siren went and the eagles were premiers I rang my grandma to celebrate. I said...it was as if they were playing possesed..they were that good! Grandma said..yep that was your grandad helping em out! Ive always believed that and whenever the team play a blinder I always thank grandad!

On Embley, I think trading him would be a mistake. Wooden and Green are perfect examples. Both have really come on this season and look to be finally cementing there spot in the team, Wooden more so than Green but Green has being in our best 6 or 6 in every game he has played this season.

I think Embley could be better than those two if we persist with him. If he was 24/25 a trade would be on the cards but he is still young so he should be given more time and more chances.

I believe the eagles should persist with Embley for at least another year, to see if he finally comes to realize his potential. Maybe a few games in the WAFL will get him the confidence and form that he needs to cement a spot in the 22.

I also agree he should be given one more year to prove himself, but what happens at the end of next year if he still hasn't been able to perform at the level we all think he can?

I'd really like to see him become a forward that opposition teams have to think about, because he can become like that, but at the moment he really hasn't shown much in the seniors.

That's beautiful Carly......:)

Regarding Embley, I think he should be persisted with for at least another season. he did start the season of well, but dropped off after a few more games. I think Woosha did do the right thing on the weekend by dropping him to the WAFL.

Embers played well in a losing side and was one of the shining lights for the black ducks on the weekend. It could be the tonic the guy needed. Hopefully he does get picked for the Eagles this weekend. I think his physical presence could be handy.

Agreed. There is a lot of one-percenters that Embers needs to be brushing up on. If he can begin to take strong marks or get the ball to the little guys more often, he will do his job. His running and tackling of opposition players can be a bit lacking and he needs a lot of work in this department.

If he can get on top of these problems, he could be a 150-200 gamer for the Eagles.

So glad this came up again. I thought I really bagged the guy, but happy to say I was not as bad as I thought.

Good to see so many here who did see the untapped potential in him and persisted, should be AFL scouts.

Well done Embers, you have made it as a true AFL player.

Yep I have to admit that I was calling for his head because of his off field problems! I was ready to trade him! But now, no way in hell! He's stepped up a gear! Good on him!
