Autopsy What still needs to be fixed?

I watched a replay of that Port NAB Cup game, and whilst our pressure was really good, we struggled to show any cohesive ball movement. The same thing happened in the games against Richmond and North. We then lost our practice matches which had me really worried leading into round 1 against Port. We were slight favourites, and I'm not sorry to say that I loaded up on Port.

More than anything, I want to see us winning clean possession from midfield clearances, and clean transferance from backline to forwardline.

That game was never televised though Jack, all we can go off is a few highlights and 5AA.

Full replay available via the the PAFC YouTube channel.

I feel like I watched the full replay on the Melbourne website after the game

I honestly don't remember what the pressure was like in that game but I do remember that way he had the 'best preseason ever' last year and that bent jack shit
Maybe port Adelaide didnt take it seriously at all

My point isn't so much about Port taking it seriously. We took it seriously though, which is more than can be said for Round 1. What I want to know is why?

Was pretty obvious in round one, Neeld clearly thought we'd smash the Power - he probably told the players that too.

We started off having a good crack but our team was so far behind where Neeld had been telling the players we were that they lost heart quickly - at least that's the impression I got in the press conference ... "we didn't see it coming" from about 5 different people.

Started off having a good crack? We didn't get a possession for the first five minutes of the game.

I think this is it , I think the players thought we were gonna be shit hot after training hard and when they realized that they weren't it all imploded

Doesn't mean there wasn't any effort, as we saw for the rest of the season - we won 2 games at 50-something percent.

Shit is always shit.

I still think we need to add some genuine quality to the middle.

A big, quickish, hard running mid or 2 like Barlow and Mundy from the dockers.

More thank likely we will have another top 5 pick at the end of the year an another top 10 pick the year after to go with toump Tyson viney Salem
As we saw with pick 2 this year we won't do any better than an under performing talent for it

Quite a few talks coming through the under 18's this year apparently.

Hopefully a good mid drops for us.

If the best available players at the top end of the 2014 draft are talls then i'll be happy to take one. Passing on future star players just because they don't fit your 'needs' is always a risky move.

Frawley could leave, Clark and Gawn could split in half, Dawes may continue to struggle, Fitz may stop developing, etc. Our talls look good on paper but they're all yet to put it together collectively.

Having said that, if we have a top 5 pick and the top 5 prospects are all talls, i'd also be happy to 'trade down' - like the deal we did for Tyson.

This is all thinking waaaaaaaaay too far ahead though.

I'm keen for Clem Smith, personally. Lightning quick, hard running utility. Billy Stretch in the second round, also, with any luck. This would add some seriously needed pace to our list.

wouldn't we get Billy as a F/S?

I think he is saying that most likely he will be a second round father son , might get lucky an get him as a third depending on where we finish

Very unlikely to go in the third round - Stretch could be a first round talent (my opinion, echoed by others on the Drafts and Trading subforum). Second round would be ideal. He's not as good as Viney was at the same age, but is also a lot more raw.

it's an interesting one, Who knows If Roosy will even want him?
we wont know till the day, can't imagine why you wouldnt want him in the second round though... unless something disastrous happens this year

He hasn't even played the biggest year of his junior footy career. He could do a Zac Jones and go on to be a first round pick, or he could slide off the radar and be taken with our last pick if at all.
