Everyone harps on about not having enough rest between games - it's the number one excuse trotted out by coaches... we had too many 6 day breaks etc.... blah blah blah...
Now they get to much of a break and it's an issue? give it a rest.
We got the least amount of advantage from the bye as we played on the Thursday. Other teams had an extra 3 days break if they played on the Saturday or Sunday but no one seems to think they benefited from it.
Dont worry its only the idiots who cant admit we were the best team, they would be the same fools saying we celebrated too much after each of our finals wins, that Murph shouldn't have been up on stage, that we would never win another Premiership etc etc
I am proud we did it our way it made it even better if thats possible!!

while Chris Maple moves from head of development to coaching performance manager
Not that this coaching change has received much attention, but this is a fantastic move.
When you've got VFL, Senior, assistant and Development coaches, it's often difficult for everybody to be heading toward the same goals and following the same processes - everybody is on different pages with their tasks, so to keep people moving in the same direction Maple's going to be critical.

It's not just that, but he's also a great communicating go-between between different areas of the footy department to ensure that those areas are on the same page as what the coach is trying to achieve. Take "moneyball" and data analysts - given our partnership with VU we've got some extremely good researchers etc. working with physical and performance science and data. But sports around the world have found that a lot of this falls down not so much in the quality of analysis and research, but communicating this with coaches so the discoveries can be implemented at a training and a match-day tactics level.

Maple's an extremely well-rounded individual who has had his fingers in many different pies from a footy perspective - he's coached from the perspective of seniors, reserves, junior and development coaching all throughout his career and is an extremely smart man who has an education background that's important for being the communicator both between different types of coaches but between the wider coaching panel and other areas of the footy department. I think it's a fantastic role given to him and it's flying under the radar a little.

Maple will be a senior coach somewhere within two years I think. His resume is superb and will only be added to by this new role.
He's not really a coach as much as he is a great football manager and communicator between people.
But then again, you could say the same thing about Fagan when he was at Hawthorn - more manager than coach - and here he is off at Brisbane as a coach.

Bulldog fan gets home from Grand Final celebrations

Western Bulldog fan Geoff Healey said he was ‘tired but happy’ as he finally returned home from the Grand Final.

When it was pointed out that it was December 7 and a missing person report had been filed, Geoff expressed surprise before breaking into a hoarse rendition of ‘Sons of the West’ before falling asleep briefly while still standing up.

Asked where he’d been since October 1, Geoff said he wasn’t too sure but had been having a wonderful time.

“I remember Bevo giving his medal to Bob and then it’s just a blur.”

“All I know is that I was at The Railway Hotel sometime mid-November, and I may have been at the Plough too, but I’m not entirely sure.

“I do know I’ve got scurvy from only eating pub food for several months and my full back tattoo of Liam Picken’s mark seems to have fully healed.

“How good was Boyd? Also, could you hold my beer, I need to lie down for a bit.”

Upon awakening, Geoff said he was going to watch the replay before having a much-needed shower.

“It’s been the best time I’ve ever had that I can’t remember.”

Didnt black pup say maple was shit as he coached him in the bush
Even if it's true - which it may not be - bush coaching and being a performance manager in an elite professional environment are miles apart.

Bush coaching is largely about inspiration and motivation. Maple seems to be a softly-spoken man so maybe he wasn't that motivating or inspiring as a half time coach.

But on the other hand if he's the "translator" of the lingo that performance analysts and development coaches use - things you won't find in a bush league - to the senior and assistant coaches, one can only assume, given his pedigree having been on both ends of that discourse in the past - he'll do a great job at it.

Does it look like Cloke is having some serious words there with (McLean is it?), and Bob is saying, "Woo up there big fella!" :D
Bob: "Don't take it personally big fella, Dale's made a career out of towelling up bigger and better players than you."

Damien Barrett will be hiding in the bushes behind the fence penning his first Sliding Door for 2017
If the Bulldogs are to be successful next year..........then Travis will have to make peace with the leadership group!!

Ha! Other than the different names, this is what I genuinely think whenever I see Jesse Hogan kick the ball.

Cloke: Oh my god, it's... it's... Dale... Dale Morris. I... I've loved you from afar... for so long...
Bob: Take it easy, Trav, we understand. He'll hug you when he gets to know you.
