What They're Saying - The Bulldogs Media Thread - Part 3

If you are talking about the very very high level peds and such then you are indeed correct they are at times undiscoverable buy I doubt very much single AFL players have any access to that quality or line of peds and in fact most probably haven’t even reached this country yet
Peptides are remarkably easy to get - jump online to an Australian site, fill out a form, have one of their in-house doctors sign off on it and they will send you everything you need including needles, vials and a sharps container. There are creams available as well, with questionable efficacy. It's all legal although a player would have to be freaking stupid to place an order under their own name.

I'd be very surprised if there aren't AFL players who run a short cycle in the off season given urine wouldn't pick anything up. Better off asking players to send photos of their stomach (any air in the needle and you get a bruise).

Actually you don’t coz I never mentioned PEDS until others did and then it got taken to an area way beyond even my first response.

But as I said, name and point and it’s all someone’s fault, the facts are irrelevant now

You are not the only one that went down the rabbit hole. If I thought it was just you I would've said as much.

Its a subject that always devolves in exactly the same way whenever it comes up here.

Mate I was referring to the peptides contained in the report I read, not the ones you can get down at Chemist warehouse with a script

They were referring to small batch, made to order peptides for teams, countries or organisations that are only sourced to one party for a very limited time. They are not mass produced on any scale at all, they are doing this to make them even harder to find tests to detect them. Due to this they are extremely hard to get and far from cheap.

Unfortunately like everything I say in here it’s flipped into not even close to what I was saying and then thrown back at me as truth.

Anyway end of discussion have a great day

These aren't from chemist warehouse. We're talking made to order peptides that were hard to source even at the time of the Essendon scandal a few years ago.
The landscape has changed - e.g. the peptides allegedly taken by Shayna Jack are now available online on an application basis, and they're very difficult to detect (impossible by urine I'm led to believe).

Like anything, some people have worked out there's a dollar to be made by appealing to vanity as most of the people who use them (anecdotally) are gym rats.

Fair enough mate

As I said I don’t know a lot on the subject was just referring to the one report I read. Should have stayed quiet lol

Nah, it's the off season. We need something to talk about. Pre-cricket season too.

Yeah completely forgot about the injury so that would make sense.
Says that he has started running on an anti grav thingy machine where he puts 75% weight on his legs. Will return to full training after Christmas and will be ready for the season. Done physio and knee strengthening stuff in his rehab.

I am of the view, that all drugs should be legalised. That way the criminal element is taken out. In terms fo sports drugs, they should also be legal and players should wear the drug company logo that supplies the drugs. that way, it is a truly free for all playing field. a bit sarcastic, but sometimes i see athletes achieve things that you think, what the farlk is that guy on to do such amazing stuff. anyway,,, let the market rule.

it’s obvious but watching Le Tour screams drugs because what they do is humanly impossible. How fast and how long they climb mountains is unbelievable

The problem with legalising all drugs and letting athletes use them is that it tends to leads to deaths and other ‘side effects’. You can’t trust athletes to use performance enhancing drugs responsibly as the rewards are so great.

No sport wants to see winners keel over and die at the end of their event. Tommy Simpson died on Le Tour mid race in the late 60’s as a result of taking drugs and pushing his body too far. Flo Jo died very early.

i see the current regime as far from perfect but it’s better than nothing. It’s like enforcing seat belts in cars, you have to protect people from themselves.

Herald Sun has an article on Naughton and it alludes he has started pre season.

Sorry I’m not computer savvy no idea how to get around paywall

I can only access the text:

Aaron Naughton will be back in full training after Christmas, adamant he has only scratched the surface of his potential as a key position forward.

The Western Bulldogs star teen kicked 32 goals and took an incredible 53 contested marks as a 19-year-old before tearing his lateral ligament in the 58-point elimination final loss.

As his knee buckled under him in the third quarter there were fears he had torn his ACL in what would have been a heartbreaking moment for Dogs fans.

But Naughton told the Herald Sun after his first run of the pre-season on Monday it had never flashed through his mind his 2020 season would be decimated.

Naughton will play alongside ex-Saints forward Josh Bruce after taking the opposition’s best key defender for much of the season and will also benefit from a second year in attack.

“I had my first run today which went well, so that’s a good sign and I will slowly build from there,” he said.

“I will build up my strength in the gym and rehab it fully and I will be back in full training post-Christmas. It’s a little bit of a delayed start to the pre-season but I don’t think it will worry me too much.

“I was on the AlterG machine today, which is basically a big cushion of air, at about 75 per cent (intensity) and I will slowly increase on that.

“It was a new challenge for me last season. I was only told just before Round 1 (that) I would play forward, and I think (playing forward full-time) is the way it’s heading. I am excited to stay up there and learn my craft.

“I worked pretty closely with (assistant coach) Ash Hansen and wanted to keep it pretty simple so there is definitely so much more to learn. That’s the exciting party, that I have so much more growth in my game from here on in.”

The Dogs were savaged by eventual Grand Finalist GWS in the elimination final, with Naughton’s injury salting the wound as the Giants kicked eight of the last nine goals.

But for some reason he was optimistic he had dodged a serious injury despite what looked all the world like an ACL tear.

“I am a hyper mobile player, where the joints can go back a little bit but as soon as I landed I knew something wasn’t right,” he said.

“I was in a little bit of shock. It didn’t cross my mind I might have done the ACL. That was the first test they did and within two minutes of being on the bench that was a sigh of relief when they told me my ACL wasn’t torn. I said, ‘Sweet, I will go back on’ but they said my lateral ligament was ruptured. It’s definitely a pretty decent result from unlucky circumstances.

“Obviously we had really good momentum and GWS were too good on the day. For us it was season over after that so we didn’t review it too much.

“They definitely touched us up in the physicality aspect and we didn’t see it coming but we are a young group with a young core of players and they are things we will learn from.”

Naughton is confident he can play alongside Bruce and Josh Schache in the same forward line.

“That’s the way we are thinking. He is one of the best key forwards in the competition and Josh and I have spoken about, we are thrilled to have him there as a mature big body down there. We are two young key forwards who perhaps don’t have that maturity yet so for him to come in is awesome.”

I guess I am never happy. We have had so much positive press on how good our list is looking after the trade I am concerned it may blow up in our face. It was only last season champion data rated the Dees with the best list and we saw what happened to them.

Where has your optimism gone? 😮

There's a million reasons why Melbourne seemed to fall away (I maintain that they weren't even a genuine contender in 2018)...
...I had no idea of the Champion Data 'stat', but I guess it goes to show that working purely with numbers can be a poor exercise. (* pending irony noted...)

They played the top 6 that year one time each in the h&a, and went 1-4. Av. margin -29.4.
The only team they played twice IN THE TOP 10!!...was Geelong, who beat them both times.
They had a total of 3 wins against THE TOP 10.

They were 3-0 against the two clear worst teams (GC/CARL), Av. score 149.3, Av. win 91.3...
...and 2 wins in Darwin (Freo (14th), Crows (12th), Av. score 124, Av. win 72.5.

All of which clearly skews the rest of the seasons scoring numbers. (Including Player Ratings.)

This season, the only 2 teams we did not beat in the top 8 were WC (in Perth) and Collingwood, losses by 9 and 14 points.

Add to that our coach isn't a one trick pony, and I don't think the 2 seasons are even comparable.

We'll be ok... 😉
