People shouldn't disparage Taylor in such a fashion, its unbecoming. He isn't the player The Bont is but he's quality, if he ever does the Lion thing of wanting to get the hell away from the hyper macho intimidation of Rocky and Hanley, I'd love him to be a Bulldog.
Yeah, good point. I didn't mean to disparage him, I was more commenting on how Bont is constantly underrated. That article was pretty horrible. He's a pretty good player and singling him out like that seems to be some sort of personal vendetta from the author.

That certainly proves what load of dreamed up crap comes out of Barretts mouth. As if anyone would consider McCartney as a senior AFL coach again!
Yeah crap like when he said player's aren't happy with Brisbane's leadership, just before Redden asks for a trade.
Or when everyone was caning Hunter about the betting and he had the real story first.
Or when he went first with Mccarthy asking for a trade.

Don't let his annoying personality, opinion and face colour your opinion on his reporting, which tends to be spot on.

It's a valid point. The man comes across as a dweeby, self-righteous campaigner but he does break a lot of stories. A muckraker, but also very capable of finding a story

I hate the prick but he tends not to go with bullshit stories. Unlike Denham who's never been right.

Why do our ex coaches continually get gigs? Terry Wallace, Rodney Eade and seemingly now perhaps Brendan McCartney have all gotten another crack after proving they couldn't get it done with us. Even Peter Rohde has been General Manager of Football at Port for over a decade now, I truly can't think of another club whose former coaches are as valued as ours. Is it just a bizarre cowinky dink or is there a underlying reason why? Is it all because of Malthouse's success at West Coast like two and a half decades ago? Its quite strange, I can see getting Macca in as a developer of talent like Melbourne did, but in today's game you have to be better tactically than he is if you're in the head job.

Agree completely. Barrett is extremely hateable, and his footy analysis is some of the worst in the media. But in an industry filled with gossip and speculation, he is the only journo whose reporting I absolutely trust. You do need to watch out for his weasel words though - like "possibly" and "could be". He uses them very intentionally. As long as you wait for the magic word "confirmed" from him, he has an excellent track record.

Part of me thinks Macca might do a few things differently the second time around and might turn out a good coach, lets be honest as bad as he was tactically I don't think he's shown his full hand there yet, he was all about development. Either way though i dont think hes cut out to be a modern coach and definitely not of Essendon. After what those players have been through and how disgruntled a lot of them seem to be do you think bringing in a hard ass like Macca is going to do them any good. They need a bev like caring coach.

So I hope he gets the job and we pick the already dead carcass even more in 2 to 3 years.

Coaching must be a very hard gig. People learn. Plus he came to us from the Dons, remember> They are familiar with him and he with their list. Luckilly there will be very little chance of him poaching one of our players back in that direction.

I have seen first hand Macca different coaching style and it fits more of a offense and ball movement
clearly learnt from his mistake at Bulldogs but still is a tough character when doing drills

bahaha, did you see the lemons Gary was sucking when asked if Stringer could get better, and he was forced to admit he could go through the midfield? All he was thinking was 'Toumpas at 4, Stringer at 5 - its Fiora before Pavlich all over again'
Toumpas over Stringer/Wines deserves it own thread imo lol

Oh my God. Sliding doors this week, can't these two nubs acknowledge that we pulled off a year against the odds. The line needs to be drawn on all this tom Boyd talk, I hope our president is the person to draw it. The last thing the community wants is another mental health issue.

When Boyd wins a coleman or grand final, i'm going to channel 9's station with a print out of all the negative pieces from Damo and place it on his desk
I don't think there's enough paper in the world for that VD.

Often I think we would be better off making our own AFL show, with in depth tactical analysis..... Then, sell the printed copies to the papers for their page inches and get some proper integrity and content in what is published.
