How good were the angles on the Fox Footy Roundtable tonight? I seriously got motion sickness. I swear there was one shot where the camera came up from Gerard Whateley's side pocket.

By the way, Derm doesn't rate us, at least I don't think he does, I couldn't really make head nor tail of what he was saying.

Anybody just hear on MMM that Wood went to Hawthorn medical to see how they treat the hamstrings and that Bev wasn't happy about it? Or did I get it all wrong
They've taken one snippet from Bevs presser the other day and blown it out of all proportions. All he said was sometimes the docs talk to other club docs on stuff.

My favourite part was when Kingy was pumping up our contested ball numbers, and Derm chimes in with "And so they should".

You'd think our contested possession dominance has an impact on not conceding scores as much as our actually good defence?
Think about it - a contested possession is a possession that both teams have the opportunity to win - so by winning contested possessions you're preventing the opposition from winning the ball. Therefore, if you look at our stats, we're conceding the least points because at the same time we've also conceded the least inside 50's in the competition. Our actual defence is only part of the reason.
That being said, I'd have Morris in the All-Australian team to this point in the season.
It's our high uncontested possession numbers as well. Time that the ball is in our hands is time that the opposition can't attack. If they have less time in the game to potentially attack, they are going to score fewer points. Our high uncontested possession is also the reason other clubs get more clearances and contested possessions than us in total, despite us being clearly the best contested team in the league when you look at differentials. As the ball is not in a contested situation as often in our games, there aren't as many opportunities to win contested ball.

The hell does that mean?
I think Derm called himself "The Objectionist" at one stage.

He just deliberately took the opposing side to the argument and was even more of a flog than normal.

So they should...like winning contested footy just happens with the click of the fingers.

Moron.

The second quarter on Sunday highlighted this

We didn't kick straight but we denied them the footy, dried their scoring up and got the game on our terms.

As soon as the Ablett vs Stringer comparison came out, jakey hasn't been at his best. Let's hope the same doesn't happen to Bont. I swear they do this shit on purpose just to **** with us.
I have personally had comparisons in the past like I'm a cross between Mel Gibson and Fred Astaire, I dance like Mel Gibson and look like Fred Astaire! It's not done me any damage.

Out of that pane last night it's Kingy's opinion that holds the most weight for me. He's really the only one who really knows his shit.
I was reading a HS article on who they think wins the premiership, and Kingy reckons the dogs

Also thought Bont would win brownlow however now thinks Dangerfield

Of the top 7 contenders this year Derm thought only 5 and half teams can win it (Hawks were the half) he said he thought 2 teams couldn't and they were the Crows because they've played the least players thus far therefore playing close to there best team week in week out and have only managed 7 wins and the other team was us because we don't score enough.

Our lack of scoring was compared to Ross Lyon teams by Kingy but Johnno was quick to point out our inside 50s are good and it's just a chemistry thing and will improve...

All we can do is keep winning I guess. Btw Gerrad W has Bont winning the Brownlow..

I thought the points made by King and Derm, on their own, were valid.

We don't score enough currently to win a flag.

However, like you pointed out, as Jonno said, we are generating enough inside 50s to kick a high score. We're just butchering it going forward and missing set shots. This is what's different to the Freo sides who played a defensively minded game and didn't generate large amounts of inside 50s. Also, I can't agree with the argument that we add an extra player at stoppages. I can't back this up but surely if we did this the opposition is just conceding the game as they wont win the footy! So a bit short sited, particularly from Derm.

Also we butcher the ball a lot going forward under minimal pressure. However a lot of that might be fatigue. I don't know how many times this year I've heard from commentators and opposition supporters when we played their team that the game was suffocating and high pressured. Robbo said this week our game against the Eagles had no room to breathe. When we played the pies I heard from their supporters they haven't seen such a high pressured game in a while - and that was with us having an off day. All our games are high pressured - and most of the time we're seeing the oppositions best effort in terms of intensity (save for freo round 1. Saints sucked but brought the intensity against us).

We're doing alright and once (if) we start converting our inside 50s and set shots we will be an all mighty force

Teams generally drop a player back to cover their defense at a stoppage. Also, many drop an extra defensive side of the pack and have an outrider on the inside but defensive side for a quick break.
Our system has been to ignore the quick break player and put that player deeper into the stoppage. It has worked well for us in most games, except North where we handballed to long out of the stoppage and they were waiting to intercept and break.
So, in conclusion the numbers in the stoppage area appear the same yet, we commit an extra inside to get the ball, while others wait outside for the break.
