I'd suggest that Richmond's first grand final in 35 years will have a huge demand in the MCC among the neutral supporters. That combined with the recent introduction of the Friday public holiday and the associated dickheads who join the queue 24 hours before the gates open to get their heads on TV for three seconds will ensure the members is full very early on.
I've found that when there's one mcg prelim it's a good indication for the grand final demand in the mcc and last week it was still a fair way off full and the lines weren't huge. I don't think neutrals care anywhere near as much about Richmond as the media might portray.

I missed out on ballot this year, i was going to line up but said screw it and bought AFL ticket. I haven't had to line up since 2012, those times it was my brother and me getting there about 11pm and sleeping in a swag. Father would come along about 7am and collect the swags while we lined up. You don't have to get there that early though.

I am usually successful in the ballot, maybe missing one in every four years. Missed out on tickets this year, so will line up on Sat morning. For other GFs, I got there around 8am and had no problem, although the available seats are on the top deck.

Planning on getting there at 6.30am. Hope that's early enough.

I've a friend who goes in the ballot every year with three or four of her member mates, and in 12 years she's missed out on seats only once. How does that work?

4:45 has been a sweet spot in previous years as it's 15 mins before the first trains, but due to the Richmond effect I'll get there at 4.

This is hopefully to get a prime level 3 seat. If you want a reasonable seat but aren't picky I reckon 6 would be OK.

Not sure how often the MCC Members has been a lockout. Generally you can still walk up quite late. No chance of getting a seat though...and the Richmond effect may change things this year.

I highly doubt Restricted Members will get any late call up to say a few tickets are available for them.

I'm dreading getting up for the North breakfast let alone queing out in the elements at 4am like people will be. Archaic system imo.
Nah its a good compromise for all concerned. HAlf the members is balloted (because thats what the members want ) and the other half is walkup (because thats what the members want). Those who choose to line up at 4am are generally just fussy bastards who want preferred seats, especially on level 2 and 3. They will be let in at 8 and ticketed by 8:30 and free to go home after that. Most others who are less fussy about what seat they want will line up between 6 and 8 .

There's about 200 of us on the concrete front section, now closed to new people and last U saw about 20-30 on the grass behind. Beautiful night to be camping out!
