I like the idea of trying him as a defender if he is deemed as not having what it takes as a forward. He was fairly good against Freo in last season pre-season game floating back as a loose defender. I would hate to see us give up on him without him being given a sufficient chance. I am pretty sure that Chris Grant thought he was a good prospect 12 months ago.
Yes we have to keep trying with him til at least the end of season. If he doesn't pull his finger out soon, he'll never get another chance.
Just look at the difference in attitude and desperation with Skipper on Sunday!
Yes the floating backman might me a good idea but is it a luxury when we want to play more accountable football?
Not sure what goes through his mind, does he need a rocket? I thought the change of coach would be to his benefit.

I don't know why everyone is singling out Bowden. He's only had one game so far and we got smashed. Nearly every player was poor. Some specific examples;

* Harrison played no better than I would
* Guido looked disinterested
* Was Grant there?
* Brown aside from 3 clever goals was awful. I expect better all round performance of someone of his calibre.

I could pick on more but I hope the point has been made.

He along with the rest of the players needs a rocket for sure and that such insipid performances shouldn't be tolerated. If he is playing the same way when the season starts he shouldn't be in the team. But until then he needs some opportunity to settle in and find some confidence.

as an idea in training drills I have him going one on one with Kritter endlessly to see how well he can compete and make him learn the craft a bit better.

Your right. At lot were bad. There are a lot of expectations for him and he doesn't grab that chance soon he'll be lost to the club.
A Kritter role model is perfect (without the injuries)

My dissapointment with Bowden is not just based on last weeks game but his performance over the last 3 years. Surely if there was anything there we would have seen it by now. I agree he has not had much of a go at the WB's but i have yet to read of one stand out performance at Werribee. He has had dozens of opportunities there and not produced. do you believe that a guy can perform very well at the highest level without ever showing anything at the lower level? You do not make the Australian Test side unless you have several hundreds or 5 wicket hauls at the State level. (Maybe Bowden is the Shane Watson of the footy world but I don't think so)

Thats not entirely true.He had a poor season with Werribee last year after having a few injuries and his form just desserted him.

In the Wizard Cup last season he was in our best 3 or 4 players for the round robin stage that we were involved in playing off a half back flank.The year prior to that he was dominant in the reserves for about half the season.He got promoted and played a total of about 20 minutes of football before Wallace dropped him.That season he was BOG or in the best for probably half the games that season as a forward.He has some clear deficiencies that have showed out like dogs balls a couple of times but he has certainly done enough at times (not last season) to suggest he can be a top player if we persevere with him.

The guy has to much ability to be written off this early in the (pre)season

I dont know what you are knocking him for , according to official site he is

"A penetrating kick, he was a consistent goalkicker for Werribee and although he didn't get much ground time in his two matches, he showed enough to suggest he'll play a lot more this season. A good mark who is hard to knock out of a contest, he could become a key forward."
