What to do with Chris Dawes?

Dawes is playing a different role this year, give him time to adjust. It's not like he doesn't put in and have a go. He's generally been playing ahead of Cloke, I think he's a better Full Forward, maybe the idea is to let Dawes do more work now and then let Cloke build up towards the finals and then Dawes can go back. Players can't be up 100% of the time and if we are winning and still have some players down, that has to be a good thing, at least there is room for improvement. Take him out of the team and play another ruckman isn't going to help our forward line. He's good for the structure and requires a good big man to hold him.

Dawes played pretty well. Fact is I still think Goldsack is a better 2nd option up forward. I get flamed for that opinion. But Sack is faster, better mark, better kick for goal, smarter footy brain and doesn't play for free kicks like Dawes sometimes gets into.

Haven't been a fan of Dawes with his form this year, but I actually thought he was okay today. Don't know what the hate is for on today's performance.

We will see a different structre when we play Eagles in a fortnight. Wood will come in as second ruck. Dawes will assume the second key forward role he is accustomed to and our forward structure will take a new twist!!!!! I think as we get closer to finals dont be surprised if we take this structre and use it in finals. We have just got out of second gear and we are 9-2.
NO!

The last 2 games Wood and Jolly have played together were rd 3 against Carlton and rd 24 against Geelong......two tall lumbering rucks that offer little in any other position except the ruck simply doesn't work.

He is being asked to perform a role that he really isn't suited to but he is doing it for the team.

He is sacrificing his individual game for the team.

Ideally, if we had another Leigh Brown option, Dawesy would be a stay at home forward, not have to motor around the ground and get to ruck contests.

He will be fine.

Calls from those to drop him clearly have no idea on his current importance structurally to the side.

I think he is playing his role just fine at the minute. Obviously I would like him to be holding more marks, he gets his hands to a lot but just can't hang on.

I like his around the ground ruck work. He covers the ground really well and puts great pressure on. He isn't going to be able to win a lot of hit outs, but he provides a great contest when it hits the ground.

19 possessions to Dawes is probably the best game statistically for the year. Dawes has played better the last 2 weeks and deserves credit for working hard last night. He needs to slot some goals to truly be of worth to the side but he at least seems to be improving in his new role.

With our continuing injury toll we have to persist with both Dawes and even Harry as well, both have been ordinary this season. If Dawes were taking a few marks and dobbing a few I would be satisfied with him as he continues to grow into his role.

It is getting to that stage of the season where I think I would prefer to just see a settled team with as few changes as possible, really with some of the players coming back and then reinjuring them selves who is to say who will be available and who will not, really it is getting to the stage where we rely on what we have and not worry about who will or will not come back.

I will say this though if our continuing injuries woes get us this year it has created outstanding depth for the next few years and that really exciting.

Ps Must get Pendles,Heater& Toovey back, with Pendlebury back in our midfield would be very hard to beat by anyone.

Would you play Dawes as 2nd ruck against WC or play Wood and Jolly? Two ruckmen against 2 ruckmen seems preferable, but if Reid is also back will we be top heavy with 2 rucks? Taz looked rusty first game up but Reid will probably adapt more quickly on his return.

I would never play Wood+Jolly even against Cox+Nat for the simple fact that Wood can't really do much around the ground. We'd be better off sticking to Jolly playing most the Dawes having a pinch hit. He'll lose it every time but we should still win the clearances if we're firing!

Play Dawes. It'll be a better learning curve plus not sure if Wood will be any better, considering how bad he and Jolly play together.

I'd back my midfield in that occasion, they'll have to step up to lend a hand for Dawes, when he's in the ruck.

The people who bag out Chris Dawes remind me of the people who bag out Alan Toovey. In other words IDIOTS.
Dawes is not Lance Franklin and he is not Sam Reid, he is working well across half forward and learning a new role in the Ruck. He has played now played 11 games total of his career is this role and you are wondering why he is not dominating.
He does need to work on a few things like his defensive work when in the ruck, and also taking his opportunities but he does have a number of hands in goals and is solid chop out for Jols.
But you know what would Nathan Buckley and the match panel know. Lets drop him.
Bit rough calling us idiots mate, Chris has hardly had a blinder since 2010. His form has shown glimpses of improvement and being one of the biggest units going around we all hoped his contested marking would have come on but it has stagnated. He runs hard does the one percenters but its pretty disappointing that his form and goal acc has dropped off. We can see him working hard so hopefully his form returns, I would take Leroy over him atm. I think he is doing a fair job in ruck considering his experience but its his fwd work which is of most concern. If we lost Trav we couldn't build a fwd line around Dawes. Long way to go to finals so hopefully he's right up there by then.
