Don't forget his first year was one of the best debut years we have seen, not only at Richmond, but in the AFL in years. Woudl have won the rising star had he not been ineligible, which we all know was a joke.
Had a man's body straight away, which meant he was a star straight away, but was always going to come back down to the rest of the pack fairly quickly.
People like Dermott Brereton have labelled him as a plodder, literally in the way that he runs etc. People have also labelled him in the ilk of Daniel Rich. Well, Rich proved everyone wrong as he had an outstanding 2012.
Much of what Dustin does from here on in is up to Dustin. No amount of mentoring and coaching is going to do any good unless it's him that is prepared to put in the work and decide that he wants to put his stamp on the game. And we all know, that stamp could be very, very big.
I'm not Nostrodamus. I don't know what the future holds for him.
He has few weaknesses. One weakness is kicking to position. By that, I mean the 35 metre passes to team mates. When he is kicking long, like 50 metres plus, he is almost perfect. Other than that, he doesn't have any genuine weaknesses.
All it needs is for him to decide that he's in, and he takes the comp by the throat. It's that simple.
Agreed...

He has something alot of players don't have and thats brutt strength in close. He has the tools to be the number 1 player in the comp. Attitude is the only thing that will let him down.
There is apart of him that just wants to be a kid.... muck around and have fun. Its almost like he doesnt want to take the next step because it will throw him into the spot light even more.... a bit like Buddy early days. The Hawks managed him very well considerning IMO. Its like he isnt ready to be the player he knows he can be just yet and he is holding himself back!!
Its like he doesnt feel like he belongs ..... that he isn't worthy or something..... Its a bit funny but I reckon 1 thing that would elevate him up a notch quickly.... and thats putting on the big V in a SOO side..... in saying that I reckon finals will get the best out of him also.
I'm probably reading onto him too much.....

I don't think you are reading too much into it nut. I have had a similar feeling about Dusty. I've wondered what it might be and the one thing that came to me was that he likes to stand with his team mates and not stand out from them. But by the time he matures that bit more and possibly gets into the leadership group he will have outgrown this. He is one player who could given the right support (may/hopefully) genuinely rise with that type of responsibility. But it will take strong support from the club.

Nothing against Newman but I reckon with Trent as Captain and Lids vice he has two players that will drag him up. Knowing how level headed Trent is and how he is so focused on team success he will leave no stone un turned to get the best out of Dusty. There is nothing like pressure from your peers and with lids we have two players that will guide him...... If Dusty hits his straps next season watch out top 4.

Guys Guys Dustin will be Dustin a few scalps by the end of the 2013 season. Before I new he was training the house down I new he would come good Mark Williams was a master stroke and as Ive told all my mates We are heading in the right direction. I bet you all did stupid stuff when you were younger I know I did I hope Ive turned out ok but we need to put our faith in Dimma and the boys we were are couple of senior depth players away from pushing for the 2012 cup. Dustin played ok in 2012 but if he plays better than he did in 2011 we would have made the finals. Go Dustin Go

Do we actually care about Dustin Martin? Or do we care that he plays for Richmond and he is a means to an end. Let's face it, if he Dustin Martin was playing at Carlton we would be sticking the boots in. This industry chews players up and spits them out...Ben Cousins said as much.

I hope for DM's sake that he sorts out his life so he doesn't end up fat, and on welfare by the time he is 35.
