The only thing people despise about Melbourne is their willingness to get around rules in and around the ruck. There are multiple more hated teams.

The tough penalty they copped was to be stripped of two premierships they won when it was revealed that they had won them while cheating. Sorry to burst your bubble but the Bulldogs, had they won anything, would have suffered the same penalty. They had an entire season's worth of points stripped when they were almost certain to win the title. The only differences were that a) the dogs hadn't won anything and b) they got caught while cheating not after the fact. No idea what their justification was with the eels, but the dogs are a club with a huge, huge supporter base and they had no trouble cutting their points.

Do you really think that Sydney wouldn't have stayed competitive without Buddy or Tippet? They've been doing in since Lockett kicked that point on the 96 prelim. They would and will manage without AFL assistance.

Everything you've said just reeks of the sort of 'you don't belong here' attitude that holds back any sport that seeks to expand itself.
I don't think the Eels got a slap on the wrist. The Bulldogs got smashed in 2002 but in reality the NRL allowed them to keep the same squad (Took a pay cut ) and won the premiership 2 years later essentially with the same team that was caught cheating with Andrew Ryan added on top. They were lucky (I am a Dogs supporter and am happy to admit this.)

I think the Parra punishment was fair as they have lost a fair few gun players to go along with the point penalty.

There seem to have been more (and more serious) cheating scandals in the NRL than the AFL. I suppose, what do you expect in a league in which the players' bodies and the grass are just billboards?

He's under hyped because he plays for a traditionally mocked club who are treated as irrelevant. He was the best contested midfielder in the comp this year, and got nothing near the praises of his comparisons; Bontempelli (with fair reason) and Merrett.

Fair enough, our points of view are a bit different but your point kind of backs up mine to an extent in that whatever you think of the dogs penalty, it was more or less mirrored by Melbourne except they'd already won something. Melbourne kept the same squad as well and went on to win a comp (minus Inglis).

Why would you expect any less? The career span of most league players is significantly less, the game generates a lot of cash but nowhere near as much as AFL, the squad sizes are smaller and therfore harder to get into, and the game has a far bigger TV presence than a live crowd presence. It makes sense that sponsorship, third party deals and other revenue options are going to play a part in the sport.

The other factor league has to deal with that the AFL doesn't, is poaching from outside competitions - rugby, English super league, french rugby etc. Teams are forced to pay overs a lot more regularly than what they are in AFL where at any given time there is only 17 possible alternative destinations for a player.

The sub rule was a fantastic rule and should be bought back and expanded to two.

I miss Rex hunt and the genuine emotion he bought to a football call.

The game itself has never been better

Agree with the last two.

The sub rule cannot return as it was. It should allow for 1 change at half time. Strategic or injury related. If you dont pull the trigger then you dont get it.

I agree with this. 1 at qtr time if player is injured or at half time makes it fair. Means the player can atleast play half a game, Where as previously it might have been 20mins in the last quarter

Yep and takes out that dimension of "fresh legs" somewhat.

If you want to use your change for tactical reasons at half time and someone goes down in the first minute of the 2nd half thats just bad luck.
