Ablett is clearly the best player in my opinion, but im pretty sure Pendlebury has had more than a purple patch in his career as he has been very good since 2007 and an a grader since 2009 and is the clear number 2 player in the league and the most consistent and has plenty of room for improvement in his game. Obviously thats my opinion and it probably means nothing
Yes sorry I didn't get my message across well I just meant that when an elite player is in career form they are often spoken about on similar terms to ablett. In saying that, when ablett does eventually decline it will be presumably pendles/danger who take the throne so to speak.

Gold Coast perform at the same level with or without Ablett. Off topic I can't remember Ablett ever laying a shepherd for his team mates even at Geelong.

I don't remember Lockett or Carey doing too many dummy leads for the forward pockets either. What's your point?

You know
this is the unpopular opinions thread right? So 2 WHOLE! clearances and 9 contested possessions is the difference? Sounds like more or less of the same to me.

The old 'who'd be a coach?' call. They get way more money than me to do a job far more interesting than me. Yes, their lifespan of employment is limited but 5 years as a coach equates to many years in my job. I'd be a coach!

So you'd be perfectly happy for Judd to just hand back his first two clearances and 9 contested possessions to the umpire?

Come on. 9 contested possessions is clearly an improvement, and each clearance is gold. Not to mention each of these is really double, because each clearance or contested possession you fail to win is one your opponent does.

Yeah yeah, I've heard this a number of times before and it is just claimed without proof. It seems like it's assumed because the suns had two good performances against Fremantle and North without him. At the least I'd say people need to back up their unpopular opinions to why it's actually true. Because a sample size of five matches isn't much.

This guy, this guy right here. You take away 9 contested possessions away from a team and they're going to be a much worse side.

Do you mean the North game last year (2013)? Ablett most definitely was playing in that game. Tore us a new one too. Apparently someone forgot to tell him it was a wet weather game.

No I mean the North game in 2012 when Ablett didn't play. North should have won by about 12 goals that day, they were just a bit out of form.

What unpopular AFL opinions do you have??

This years Australian of the year Adam Goodes is a Champion player and amazing role model and thoroughly deserved the award.

Still can't believe so many people want to tear him down. Can't we all just be happy for the bloke people??

Was thinking of this a few days ago. Not sure if it will be unpopular.....

There should be 2 types of salary cap. One is for players that you have traded for or got through free agency etc etc. This one is a lot smaller than the other salary cap which is for players who you have drafted and have only been at the one club. This one is a lot bigger to ensure that your best players aren't poached by clubs who have a lot of money in the salary cap left. The salary cap for the drafted players would be large which would enable clubs to keep players that they have developed and grown.

Obviously it would need a lot of ironing out in terms of finer details but I like the concept

Still there isn't a huge difference there and the 2012 Suns weren't nearly as good as their 2013 team. I must admit that 5 games isn't a huge sample to prove this either way.

we have famously abysmal kpf stocks. Hopefully Jones comes on and is persevered with because he's a freak of an athlete. Strong, fast and a huge leap. Elite contested mark but no tank yet.

then I think it'll be a combo of our future ruckmen both rotating up there. Cordy and Campbell.

Also Jake Stringer and Marcus Bontempelli are going to cause head aches going forward.

Also see us poaching a gws player

EDIT: woops put this in the wrong thread

There needs to be more umpires on the field. There should be two goal umpires at each end, and four-five field umpires. A number of times, umpires get caught out of position trying to make calls, if you had more umpires, they'd always be someone close to the action. Oh and umpires should be sectioned off so that they can only call decisions in their section, no paying dubious free kicks when you're 100 meters away from the play when there's an umpire much closer waving play on.

Don't know if that's unpopular though.

1. Too many Victorian teams. Some need to go.

2. Expansion is good for the game. Looking at history it has improved football standards dramatically.

3. Demetriuou is doing a great job. Yes there are some negatives, but overall great.

4. Interchange needs to go. Game would become even more tactical with no interchange...ie resting players in defence. Putting more attacking players on at certain times.

5. We need to do much more to grow the game overseas. It really is the greatest sport in the world ... just not the easiest to understand or take up.
Got to take issue with some of these.
Dreadful for me to say but I agree about the number of Vic clubs, but there was better ways to expand by forcing movement ,like Footscray to Western Sydney and North
Melbourne to the gold coast. Obviously a team in Tassie. Who?? Hawks or Saint Kilda probably the Saints as the Hawks are sound financially and could still play some games in Northern Tasmania.

Expansion as a follow on to your number 1. Is a diluter of the game. Too many clubs , too many under the standard footballers . We should have 12 clubs all over the country imagine the standard then.

As for Dim, he has been OK in some areas , my main problem with him is I don't believe what he says much any more.

Interchange should go, to slow the game , bring back more skills of football rather than being able to run people into the ground and it would, believe it or not, cut down on so many injuries that ruin each week. But you could still interchange for tactical or injury purpose, and no rule stopping a player going back on. But interchange cut right down to a handful.

Grow the game overseas. RUBBISH! Why??? If you don't know , well what can I say.

The bounce by the umpires should be abolished.

Here is a chance to make sure each ruckman gets a fair crack at it.............for some illogical reason the AFL have decided that each ruckman SHOULDN'T get a fair crack at winning the hitout.
Centre bounce is a tradition to be kept, the only sport where an official actually has a skill to perform. Round the ground throw up though.

That the GC and GWS is a horrendous idea; and we might've bitten off more than we can chew.

Demetriou also gets a more than favorable outcome in my books.
Depends on what your looking for in footy. Real Aussie rules has left the stage since expansion and speeding up of the game , and of course the worst of all is that the speed makes umpire perception the caller of a free kick , not what he actually sees, horrendous game losing decisions by an umpire calling some minuscule tiggy touchwood free from 100 metres away. Outrageous that is.

Following AFL football is a waste of time. There are better things to do in life. Think of all time you spend travelling to and from games, standing in queues before the game and at half time, watching overpaid gorillas chase a piece of leather, hurling abuse at the umpires, cursing the opposition guns, cursing your own team's duds, shuffling slowly out of the ground after the final siren, listening to shitty talkback radio, listening to shitty radio commercials, watching godawful TV panel shows, reading insipid newspaper articles, pre-season fluff pieces about Jobe & Timmy Watson, listening to Channel 7's crappy commentary, Bruce and Dennis tossing each other off and swearing at your TV screen like a crazy man, daydreaming of your team winning the Grand Final, posting mindless crap on Big Footy, arguing with some imbecile over who was better: Tredrea or Riewoldt? Hird or Buckley? .... and for what? Was your life improved? Did it help you achieve your goals? Did you wake up and find yourself living in a Toorak mansion with a beautiful wife and $10,000,000 in your bank account? All it really did was temporarily distract you from the miserable reality that your life sucks.

AFL football is like heroin: it's heavy users suffer through long periods of drawn-out anticipation and irritation, the occasional fleeting high, interspersed with a zombified, stupefied state of existence, their body and mind slowly rotting as the years tick by, the world passing them by.

Enjoy your AFL, schmucks. Here's some highlights of Peter Daicos brought to you by McDonalds cheeseburgers and Carlton United Breweries.
YES BUT I'M HOOKED, I CAN'T GET OFF! I CAN'T GET OFF ! I CAN'T GET OOOOOOOOOOFFFFF.
