Which is/was the biggest scandal in AFL footy?

Carey playing hide the sausage with 'best' mate and vice captain or Ben Cousins pretty fly for a white boy wanna be gangsta rapper shennanigans.

Either way - looks like a similiar outcome.

In time with some of the things this event will cause in the AFL Ben Cousins issues will be the bigger issue.

Carey's issue was rubbish he boned a blokes mrs, she was a bike anyway, yay.

The Ben Cosuins incident is a manifestation of a major issue in society, if it is found that hard drugs such as ICE were involved this event will casue waves right through to parliament and society.

I think it depends on the outcome of the drug testing. If it is as simple as the Chick/Embley fight and the ex GF, it wont even come close to Carey.

Carey broke the heart of North Melbourne supporters and provided months of jokes for everyone.

what carey did was stupid and selfish, and was big because he was a big name.

what cousins did depending on how much information gets out, would bring the AFL into disrepute, the bigger the cover up the worse it will be if its blown open and quite possible bring the question of the 2006 premiership into question (although the AFL wont change it retrospectively).

if teh AFL shows some balls, might go a long way to crushing the drugs culture in AFL.

Carey by a friggin mile - what's worse boozing and taking drugs or rooting your best friends wife?

I'm sure many of us are guilty of the former, but rooting your best mates missus is one of the lowest dog acts you can do.

Did Carey break any Laws?
Only society's"moral" laws. The idiot got caught unlike a lot of his peers ;)

Last time I looked the taking of illegal drugs in this country is a CRIMINAL OFFENCE and if the likes of you (i assume) and me were busted by the boys in blue we'd be up before the judge possibly facing a jail sentence unless we had the backing of an organisation with pots of dollars to employ top legal team or, heaven forbid, have the power to COVER UP the wrong doing.

Carey was a bigger scandal for mine. All time club legend and best every player, best ever captain, one of it’s few multiple flag winners gets caught with another club legend/Mr. popular’s wife and ends up leaving the club.

Cousins is only directly harming himself and there is no reason relationships can’t be mended if indeed there are even severed. In fact he could end up a poster boy yet.

The long term repercussions from Cousins might be a lot more far reaching. From highlighting issues to getting them dealt with. From West Coast Eagles culture to footy club behaviour. Massive media scrutiny from here on in. Increased testing. Reformation of the 3 strikes policy. Even the draft could be affected. Imagine a Victorian parent saying that if WCE draft their baby they will go to court to prevent it because they don’t trust the culture. Where does that leave the AFL?

Carey was a North issue. Cousins is an AFL issue. Carey’s is more a scandal in the true sense of the word. Cousins is a more significant issue in the long term.

Ya know, I really doubt that. If the cops caught you with a few pills or a gram of whatever I doubt you'd get hauled up before a judge and definately wouldn't face jail for a first offence - as long as its not a trafficable quantity you'll most likey get a warning.

Also, if you tested positive in a work situation, you'd probably lose your job but would your employer inform the police? I don't think they would.

Anybody remember Ablett Snr?
That crossed my mind but he had effectively retired. I think for impact the Carey one as it was an unknown, truth be told everyone saw the Ben Cousins/Eagles thing happening from along way off

Though I do fear there is a bigger scandal around the corner... there always is

Definitely the Carey scandal as there was no real prelude to it. Respected captain and teammate, news breaks .... followed by a press conference and in the space of a couple of days, Carey was no longer. What a massive shock for Roos supporters and the AFL in general.

At least with Cousins, he has given the odd sign or two of going off the rails. Maybe the side issues with Judd's discontent, Chick vs Embley and the like, this is more destructive for the club. The fact that they are the reigning premiers makes it weirder still. Haven't seen anything like this at a reigning premier since Carlton after the 79 season with Harris getting thrown out and Jesaulenko sensationally walking out.
