I have no problem with Stevo forgiving her for what she had done to him, to their kids, to their family. But, what she had done is so much higher on the scale of negativity than what Carey did to him.

It is like forgiving someone for murder but not forgiving them for theft, it makes no sense. He has made him a scapegoat for all the problems because he wants to be with her. Life is so much easier when you have someone you are not attached to in order to blame.

If he is staying with his wife, for the kids, then they have to live in a happy family setting otherwise you are not doing the kids any favours. Kids know when the parents are miserable and they do not grow up happy kids. You can't be happy if you can't forgive and get over what happened.

I would never forgive my wife for a mistake like that, I just wouldn't take out all my hate on just the guy. They would both get the same treatment, in fact, I would hate her more than the guy because the guy has made no vows before god to be faithful, she would have.

Carey was an arse, he put his loins before a friendship but she put a whole lot more on the line than just a friendship.
Where exactly was it posted who is the bigger scandal? Carey or Cousins or the silly twat who wanted a bit of Wayne.
So she was a Ho, dont really think its releventa as Carey repeatedly porked his VC & mates wife....wtf does it matter if she wanted it, his act is far more of a scandal than some dumb hick who plays good football getting stuck into the hard stuff and acting like hes God (Ablett already has that role covered btw):D .

You are preaching to the choir, he is a cretin. But he is being judged harshly when there are tens if not hundreds of thousands of people doing the same garbage in our communities.

Person A cheats on Person B or Person X divorces Person Y, etc. By those standards 3/4 of the population are just scum, probably plenty of people you know and probably that you call friends, or will know if you are too young atm.
This is more than that.

He was the face of the club. He was a large reason for their on field success, and was a major reason why sponsors got on board. When you are paid what he was getting your resposibilities do not end when the final siren goes.

As captain he had a responsibility to his team mates, the club, their sponsors and the supporters who pour millions into the club. He decided he was bigger than all these.

This was far greater than simply rooting a best mate's missus. He damaged the club both on and off field, destroyed friendships, tarnished the AFL brand.

What if he was a mid level player..would it be as big a scandal?
The bigger the player the bigger the scandal generally for the same action.

Would still have been a very big scandal though, especially rooting the VC wife.

Trust is a very big thing within a footy team. Not much worse can be done to destroy that trust, well legally anyway.

In time with some of the things this event will cause in the AFL Ben Cousins issues will be the bigger issue.

Carey's issue was rubbish he boned a blokes mrs, she was a bike anyway, yay.

The Ben Cosuins incident is a manifestation of a major issue in society, if it is found that hard drugs such as ICE were involved this event will casue waves right through to parliament and society.
Absolutely spot on..... posted my exact thoughts. Saved me the time! :thumbsu:

I hadn't seen this when I posted in another thread - but Carey's is/was the bigger scandal. No contest.

The Cousins story is big but it's essentially a sports story (and only a news story in states where footy is news). The Carey scandal ran and ran in every kind of media outlet. It was personal drama, it had goodies and baddies, it had moral dilemmas - and it had no happy ending, so there was fallout for years and no resolution for anyone, probably ever. If Ben Cousins sorts himself out - even if he doesn't play again - this story can be tied with a bow and largely forgotten by the media.

I'm not saying one was a more important story than the other, or more relevant to the wider community, or anything. But until Ben Cousins has a spread in Woman's Weekly - or we are still getting stuck into it here in five years time - I'll stick to believing that the Carey one was a bigger scandal to a much bigger audience.

Only society's"moral" laws. The idiot got caught unlike a lot of his peers ;)

Last time I looked the taking of illegal drugs in this country is a CRIMINAL OFFENCE and if the likes of you (i assume) and me were busted by the boys in blue we'd be up before the judge possibly facing a jail sentence unless we had the backing of an organisation with pots of dollars to employ top legal team or, heaven forbid, have the power to COVER UP the wrong doing.
You might like to do a ring around to the news stations and let them know exactly what is going on, because you seem to know better then the rest of the bloody country.

And taking drugs in the past is not a crime. Being caught with drugs in your possesion is. So unless the drug testers that came by caught him with his stash, it's fine.

You might want to take a few breaths mate.

I think substance abuse, running away from police, avoiding drug tests, etc is a bigger issue than shagging someone who can't keep their legs crossed or going to court for telling a chick she has small hooters.

Carey was a great player, he was a neanderthal off-field. Anyone shocked by what he did probably didn't know him very well. Cousins is a runaway train fast approaching the end of the line. Nobody can predict the outcome, even now. Who knows where the circus ends, that is what makes it so big.

Carey broke the heart of North Melbourne supporters and provided months of jokes for everyone.

what carey did was stupid and selfish, and was big because he was a big name.

what cousins did depending on how much information gets out, would bring the AFL into disrepute, the bigger the cover up the worse it will be if its blown open and quite possible bring the question of the 2006 premiership into question (although the AFL wont change it retrospectively).

if teh AFL shows some balls, might go a long way to crushing the drugs culture in AFL.
What drugs are you on ???? Laughable....

If it had only happened once, but he banged her for 6 months.

How do you explain him leaving his wife weeks before giving birth?

The bloke is lower than a piece of dog ****.
lets not forget he was also found guilty of assaulting a female.

Carey had the 3rd most pages consecutively from the front of the Herald Sun for any event in history!

Behind 9/11 and Bali I think... although it is a Vic paper, it does say something!

Did they have maps of Glen Archer's house, showing exactly where the BBQ was and where the toilet was?
Or how about those cute, step-by-step diagrams they sometimes do, maybe showing how the King parted Kelli's thighs, with an arrow to the next diagram, showing how the King rammed his royal pecker home?

Which is/was the biggest scandal in AFL footy?

Carey playing hide the sausage with 'best' mate and vice captain or Ben Cousins pretty fly for a white boy wanna be gangsta rapper shennanigans.

Either way - looks like a similiar outcome.
My memory of the incident is that he shagged the 'best' mate and vice captain's WIFE, not Stevo himself.

That would have been a bigger story.

Anyway, Stevo was never Duck's best mate at the club. Mick Martyn maybe.

agree...carey damaged the whole "brotherhood" persona of the game. the severity of his incident is evidenced by the fact the he retired immediately when the whole thing came undone.
He 'retired'?

If he'd retired, how did we snaffle a few nice pics palming him off to Adelaide for a year or so?
