Expansion What was the Western Sydney plan if North went to GC?

A few odd games here and there don't prove Tasmanians are the most fanatical and hardcore fans. Actually having some successes and being able to stand up for yourself might, but of course, whatever they **** up is all the AFL's fault, right? After all, Everything negative in Tas football is a CONSPIRACY by the AFL...Although nobody can explain why they'd do that...it's just a massive, long term CONSPIRACY that would only serve to hurt the AFL long term, but to say anything else might make you face up to reality, so you'll just keep blaming the AFL.

BTW...those extraordinary numbers...three points.
How do you think those games in other states would go if it wasn't for ground capacity?
Those numbers are still VERY low in absolute terms, and consider the expenses of a Tas club wouldn't be pro-rata, the revenue/support shouldn't be factored that way either.
If you do want to pro rata the numbers, why not check country/regional comps as well? I bet they stack up pretty well against that.

and why did 'lowly North Melbourne have a team in Tas? Oh yeah, because Tasmanians didn't support a local team enough for it to stand alone (but again, it's all the AFL's fault, right?) Just ignore tiny details about why it died...(the AFL said they'd only fund one of a VFL team or a state league, and they went with state league...of course, that choice wouldn't have been an issue if Tasmanian football could pay for itself).

Sure, Tasmania has produced a number of excellent players...so has Bendigo...Should they have a team too? (bet they have a high % of the pop turn up to big games too!). There aren't enough Tasmanian's in the AFL currently to field a team after all. I know, it's all the AFL's fault, again ... even though the AFL does more for the game down there than the previous Tasmanian admin ever did and the decline as much due to demographics than anything - declining and aging population means few kids and fewer kids mean fewer potential players, especially when the other sources of players across the country are growing significantly.

BTW, you missed a few Tasmanian's for Richmond...including Jack Reiwoldt and Benny Gale who you might have seen on the TV a month and a half back.
"Conspiracy" -who has ever suggested any AFL conspiracy? AFL neglect, inadequate Tas. pathways, mismanagement, & consequences of AFL broadcasts on Tas. State Leagues have been mentioned -but certainly never a "conspiracy"against Tasmania.

"Bendigo"? I assume you are not being serious. It has Tas.'s pedigree!? Did it have wins over Vic., WA, & SA?

You haven't directly responded to my posts about the:-

.previously very strong position of Tas. football

.current destruction of Tas. football

.consequences/opportunity cost for the AFL, & AF in general, of the ending of the Tas. recruitment goldmine of so many Tas. star players, & other good players, into the old VFL/AFL.

.Public affirmation of Demetriou & McLachlan (as recently as early 2017). They have said a Tasmanian side, when the AFL expands again, will probably be the next team to join the AFL.
They obviously know what Tasmania traditionally delivered for AF; & should again bring to the AFL, & AF generally ie the arguments for a Tasmanian team are STRONGER than other possible future new teams. You seem to assume you are more "enlightened" than the AFL re Tas.

Before Gold Coast were established, North Melbourne were of course given a huge offer by the AFL to relocate there full-time.

If they’d have gone, there wouldn’t have been an extra club, we’d still have had 16.

Was it still the plan to bring in a second Sydney side? Would there then have been 17 clubs and only eight games with a bye?

Plans to bring a second sydney side were mentioned in AFL annual reports going as far back as 1998.

In May, 1998 a report by the AFL Commission-appointed New South Wales/Australian Capital Territory Task Force was released. The broad strategic direction of the report was subsequently accepted by the AFL Commission, although it is recognised that it will take up to 20 years to achieve our long term goals.

One of the Task Force's major recommendations was the re-organisation of the administration of the AFL game in NSW and the ACT into a single governing body, the AFL (NSW/ACT) Commission.

Key recommendations of the Task Force report included:
  • An objective of having 5o,opo juniors participating in the AFL game throughout NSW and the ACT by the year 2010, compared to the current figure of about 12,000.
  • Aiming to have McDonald's Auskick, the modified rules version of the game for primary school children, played in 85 percent of schools in NSW and ACT by 2005.
  • Setting a target of having 20.25 AFL draftees from NSW/ACT by 2010 with 10-12 from Greater Sydney (Newcastle to Wollongong).
  • Highlighting the need to build the appropriate infrastructure including administration, development officers, grounds, umpires, team managers and coaches.
  • Building the AFL brand in NSW and ACT including the careful management of a second AFL club to Sydney.
