What was the worst AFL Finals series ever?

People saying this year's finals series hasn't been good.....are you mental?

Pies v crows wasn't a classic but it was intense and heated....had intrigue

Giants v Hawks was an epic

Suns v dockers was an uber epic

The prelims were two high quality matches that weren't settled until the last quarter

I get some people might be bitter about their own sides short comings this year but c'mon this year's finals have been fine

As far as finals go I'd give it a 5/10, pretty average. A great gf might bump it up to a 6. No real blow outs, but only one game going down to the wire. At no point after 3qt were either prelims really in doubt. Crows Pies semi was disappointing not just because of the result but because the Crows didn't really show up, or coaching and playing wasn't up to it.

This year's been more of a meh finals series than an out and out shit one. There's actually been few blowouts and a number of the games have been interesting, it's just lacked that one true cracker that defines a series (GC/Freo perhaps the closest?)

With all due respect to sides 5 through 8, a good finals series usually needs really good QFs, PFs or GF.

Generally speaking, the EFs and SFs can be a bit of a "nice to have". I don't think anyone bar the most one-eyed supporter was watching Freo vs Gold Coast while thinking that it might have a large bearing on who wins the flag.

The exception is of course teams that go on to actually play a big role in September in retrospect (Brisbane vs GWS 2024).

The upset result was the only remotely interesting thing about that finals series. Not that I had a real preference on the day or anything.

I need my finals series to have most of its games up for grabs at the start of the 20 minute mark of the last quarter.

Only 1 game has been genuinely up for grabs at the start of time on.
The Hawks/GWS and Pies/Crows elimination final were effectively over at the 20 minute mark of the last quarter.

Therefore I haven't rated this finals series.
I don't have high hopes for a close GF this weekend.

Considering what GWS did to us late in the third quarter, no Hawthorn supporter felt safe even when there was 90 seconds left in the final quarter and we lead by 13.
