what we learnt

I think you blokes are being a bit negative.

* Foley looked all class and will be a great player for you guys this year.
* Newman has recovered well
* Deledio didn't do much but in the second half he showed how good he is
* Same for Nathan Brown

I was dissapointed JON was not selected.

Your biggest problem is Ruck depth. Noble is just not ready to be your No.1 ruckmen and using Tuck in there is just criminal. Lets hope Simmonds returns round 1 and is not underdone.

Remebering Geelong picked their best 22. Chappy, Rooke & Gamble were all injured and Steve Johnson is out until round 6. So you did not do too badly.
Good post. :thumbsu:
Yes, there were some positives, but for me, the negatives were many and as impatient RFC supporters we want success and we want it now.

Yesterday would have been an excellent time to give Angus Graham a run, using him to spell Knobel and match up against Blake. This way, he wouldn't be monstered by King and would play against someone at a similar stage of development.

Knobel will never be the #1 ruckman! He only exists on our list as insurance when Simmonds and Pattison aren't available!

When the club prefers Tuck to Graham that says all you need to know about Graham. Let's see if he can get a game at Coburg first. Right now we have to worry less about him being monstored by Steve King and worry about him being monstered by Aaron Fiora.

The game didn't really tell us anything we didn't already know:
  1. Wallace has been tried to pinch a few ideas from the Swans over the last couple of years. The latest is to treat the NAB cup with contempt.
  2. While it has improved since the days when we had Kellaway, Sziller and King in there, the midfield remains our biggest weakness as it has been for about the last 6-7 years. Forget about forwards or backs. Sheedy is the last of the dinosaurs that thinks bookends at full forward and full back will win you premierships. The rest of the league knows the game is won in the guts and once again we got smashed in the middle. Cogs, Johnson and Tuck have pretty much been our only midfield the last couple of years with no back-up. Foley looks like he might make the grade, but we also need to get Lids in there as much as possible and throw a few others to the lions as well.

so what your saying is we should put our best players on the ball?

the game is won around half back flanks nowadays:rolleyes:

What we learnt most likely, more than anything, is that pre-season touch ups dont help membership drives. Miller can wave the skin at half time on telly all he likes but of you are getting it up the freckle big time the VISAs will stay cold.

thats scare mongering a bit TT, what counts more is when the real stuff starts...considering the appalling start to the year in 2006 we did remarkably well to be just shy of 30,000 members...Here's hoping for a more encouraging start this year to burst through the 30k mark

nothing we didnt already know. we have a list of skinny outside footballers with few decent kpp and little depth.

the refusal of wallace to draft talls and big bodied onballers who can win their own ball is killing us.

I just threw up in my mouth after seeing that
