If Collingwood is to fight for a premiership in the next 2-5 years, who do we go for during the trade period? I reckon we are a gun ruckman and quality mid short of a premiership team. I know this has been discussed earlier but i would fight for Jamie Charman as Bris are stacked with rucks. Maybe also Robert Campbell or Max bailey from Hawthorn(doubt whether we'd have any chance). Next the midfeilder. I doubt this but we have the cash to go for Judd. Next i would look at fighting for either Sylvia, Stiller, Salopek, Kade Simpson to go in the middle with Daisy, Pendles, Heater, Swan and Johnson in the coming years. Thoughts.

I agree with the ruck and midfielder, maybe even two midfielders. And the forward line needs some consistancy.

I met someone like this once in a pub in Spotswood (yeah the 'Spotty') claimed he was a Bulldog and Carlton member! I think he may have had some 'Eagle' in him too, if you know what I mean. This same guy is on the Tiges site talking about Kent Kingsley.

We drafted big last year, basically outlined a whole new spine just abouts. Over the coming drafts grab a few quality midfielders, and we'll be looking pretty rosy.

At least two more A-grade mids. They have to be able to win the ball in tight, but also use it out wide. We also need a big bullocking ruckman, who can win taps and dish out some punishment. If you're gonna get really specific a pacy small defender also wouldn't go astray. We're also gonna have to rebuild our KPs. But hopefully in Reid, Dawes, Brown, Cloke, Anthony, Cox, and Rusling we already have our next wave of KPPs, and it's just a matter of giving them time to develop.

“We” are a first choice tap ruckman and 2 classy quick mids off being real contenders if we have a very good run with injuries. At the start of next year you can add a CHB and a replacement for Buckley. We all know we will soon thereafter have to replace Clement and thereafter Rocca and Presti.

The reality is our opportunity passed us by and we will be doing very well to tread water for the next 3 years while we replace the heart of our last 5+years side. Sad but true. For the next 3 years I'd just draft the best player available at our pick and try and upgrade as many draft picks with trades as we can. If we can draft and trade very well for the next 3 years and if we can cull correctly then in 3 years we can look at list structure and target what we specifically lack.

You're on to it. What else can you do? The club knows it too -- they just can't say it, because they can't annoounced to sponsors & members that they don't consider themselves a chance for a premiership for at least three years. But they showed it in their actions at last year's draft. We just have to sit on our arses and wait -- and hope the recruiting dept starts getting it right for a change.

Hine knew he had to blow last years superdraft on talls, we needed a spine for the future and talls are harder to come by. Using the superdraft hopefully increases the odds of finding that spine. Malthouse's comments straight after the draft were quite revealing, I got the impression he would have went a different way but had to defer to Hine. MM has said the day will come when there is a FB, FF, Ruck and 19 midfielders so perhaps he wanted to blow our wad on mids

Giving an outside perspective:

- You need at least 2-3 faster midfielders

- Another dominant marking foward to step up. This could be either T Cloke or Rusling

- Your Backline is your biggest asset. That doesn't need much fixing now but of the long term once blokes like Presti, Clement, Wakelin and Tarkyn have retired you will be in a similar hole like Richmond are. Lack of tall strong KP defenders. I'm sure between now and then you will have a few step up, you guys got N Brown didn't you?

- Heath Shaw needs to go into the midfield. Can't see the bloke winning alot of clearences but he would be a top notch outside midfielder if prepared correctly. Has the fitness, the skills and the pace.

- Make some big calls on your list. Get rid of Licuria and some of these other 25-30 year old players who aren't offering that much. This may also mea, although most you probably won't agree, getting ride of Neon Leon. The bloke is talented, however he just doesn't do enough and we you got blokes like Didak kicking goals and younger foward types like Thomas etc. coming through you won't need him

- Find out how the blo*dy hell the Brisbane Lions rebuilt such a quality list in such a short span of time and do the same!

argh pessimism about the pies just hurts me!

ruck, ruck, ruck, ruck, ruck.
we have a more-than-decent midfield in the making with the young fellas.
we need pav, and lots of him!
