Here are my thoughts on what went wrong against the Hawks.

1 Laycock cant run out a game and has no engine
2 Dyson cant run out of sight, he looks fast but is not and his ball movement is 2nd rate
3 Mark Johnson is sadly out of touch and needs to be dropped to find form
4 Ryder needs to be played at CHB where he has dominated early and not be thrown into the ruck for long periods yet
5 More run in the midfield is required - Hislop, Houli, Campo, Lonergan, Jetta, etc should all be considered for future games
6 Mark Bolton should not be playing for this club, we have all had enough and whilst he has been a great servant of the club, sheedy's love child needs to move on, it is becoming embarrasing
7 Watson needs to learn to kick, he can win the ball now needs to learn to get rid of it in a damaging midfield way

Positives

1 McVeigh playing a good game again
2 Welsh looking damaging when playing on HFF
3 Davey again doing the inspirational things (like just before 3/4 time)
4 JJ great return to the main stage
5 Lovett needs to be more consistent in the midfield but starting to show good signs
6 Heffernan doing good run with roles in the middle
7 Stanton again getting heaps of the pill and using it well
8 Johns looked good, leads well and strong hands, just needs to work on 2nd effort at ground level
9 We are not Richmond

At least I got more positives than negatives out of the game

Need Lloyd, Hille (missed more than enyone could have imagined), NLM, Houli, Lonergan, Winderlich back

Stanton didn't use it aswell as he usually does, he had like 7 clangers!
But most of what youv'e said is spot on.

Interested in your comments on Lovett. What good signs were those?

Yet again we were overrun by a GUN CHF/FF. We have always struggled against dominant forward big men. I thought Mal was our answer, now not so sure. We just made Buddy a star.

It has part to do with the defensive pressure we are applying from the midfield, if people dont kick under pressure they will hit targets more often.

Buddy was always going to be a star, we have just made it knowledge earlier that we or anyone else would have liked.

Lovett is starting to run the lines well and movement through the middle is quick, he just needs a bigger engine so he can spend more time in the middle.

...and may I suggest a greater willingness to do the hard things and not just the flashy things. This guy should be a gun, but I suspect he is lazy. Am I right? Silly question...I'm Always Right.:)

first ryder needed to be used in the ruck. laycock has no engine so cant be in the ruck too long, plus imo ryder is our best ruckman with hille out...

i was happy with mark boltons effort. didnt really see him do anything bad. he didnt get a lot of it but when he did i thought he was good which is rare i normally have nothing but anger towards him when he plays

johns needs to go to the vfl again sadly... he doesnt have the fitness to be a good full forward at AFL level... i was watching him from the sidelines at the hawks game and didnt see him make anywhere near as many quality leads as he should.. for the kangas iwould like to see johns omitted and mal micheal shifted to full forward (although he did a great job down back imo against the hawks, we dont need more talls in the backline for this game), roos have a small forwardline so move mal out of there and put him in full forward where i thought he was great for the few minutes he was there against the hawks, had 2 attempts at leads and won both of them, kicked a goal in one and made a goal in the other (winderlick paid advantage of his free kick)

no no no no no ! he needs games on end in the ones, his 2nd efforts are far better than last year and so is his willingness to push up the ground. the delivery wasnt there on the weekends, and i think that when lloyd is not there they need to look for johns more often

were you at the game? cause its very difficult to tell otherwise but johns was not making anywhere near as many leads as he should have. i agree the delivery wasnt there but they were still looking to lucas far more then johns and that was mostly because lucas was at least leading. johns rarely made a valid lead... i think as a full forward you have to make leads at every opportunity. players simply dont kick it to full forwards in body on body contests anymore...
