Jessie white would have monstered lake last night and done much more at ground level. Why the hell wasn't rohan playing? He is a jet. Mumford and O'keefe look like they were shot. Why is there now love for Bevan?

Hey i wish you guy got up but the facts are Grundy cost your team maybe 4 or 5 goals in the first half that were stoppable.
Conceded easy hitup leads to Hall early that dont go down as clangers but can be stopped by playing infront.
Even Minson got hitup on a lead with Grundy tailing him in the second quarter but Minson didnt goal but by this stage i was thinking that this guy is down.
Then the bigger ones came not long after, the one on one duel against Hall where he couldnt spoil and then the 2 dropped marks that cost goals to Hall and the kid who hadnt even had a kick yet in Grant.
Momentum was lost and the Dogs got back into the game.

Grundy has had a great year but his game was costly last night, its just the truth.

But he also converted 3. Given White's goal average this year, I think it's fair to say Braddy did more than White would have.

Agreed. Bradshaw was dangerous every time he had a one on one contest in the air on a very good player in Brian Lake (though both were not at full fitness). Going on what we've seen of Jesse this year, he surely would not have had the same influence on the game as Bradshaw did (and for him to perform in such a way while still not fit and after 3 months out of seniors action was very impressive). His misses really hurt by they certainly weren't the only reasons we lost the match and if you think they were, well, i daresay you need to watch the game closer.

If we can get him fully fit and playing close to a full year next season we will be a much better side.

this was a game we really should have killed but scoring 1 goal in a half of football isn't going to win anything.

All said it was important we didn't disgrace ourselves like adelaide/essendon in a final and sent our champions home in a respectable manner.

What exactly was appalling about his ground work? If you can't remember many instances of him scrambling after loose balls, that's because he took 7 marks inside 50. Did Lake run around creaing havoc - he only had 7 possessions and the one time he managed to run down to our defensive 50, Bradshaw was right on his tail and beat him in the contest.

Early in the second term Lake went forward and presented for a mark 10 m out. Bradshaw spoiled. Lake's impact on the match was negligible and Bradshaw beat him in the air.

The reason Bradshw didn't make more contests for TDL was because he held his marks inside 50 and McGlynn played more of HFF flankers role and was getting the ball inside 50 rather than being in it too often. .

CAS and Grim have summed up the Bradshaw argument very well. He didn't kick straight obviously but he provided a crucial target in front of goal. No other player on our list would have played the role at FF better than the 80% fit Bradshaw we saw last night.

Exactly. Bradshaw provided another dimension to our attack that had been missing. He just missed a couple of shockers.

No point crying about it now, but White and Bevan really should have played. For all those saying Moore deserved to be kept in, he again did absolutely nothing last night, save for a couple of strong marks I recall in the first half. Plus he got burned the other way by Harbrow. He's just a non-factor generally - a very average footballer. Like I said in another thread, if you have McGlynn in the team, Moore is irrelevant.

TDL just got outmuscled. Not much more to it than that.

Once we gave up momentum, it was all over. Carbon copy of the Carlton match really - once we were on the back foot, we couldn't get a clearance. Obviously the last minute of the first half was where the game turned - I would love to see some stats on how many goals the Swans give up at the end of quarters because I swear they would be right near the top of the AFL - it happens every bloody week!! And of course, there's the long standing issue of being incapable of playing with a lead of any sort.

I think the loss is just tough to take because we had it in the bag if we were good enough....and we weren't. Also because, while we might not have beaten the Saints, it would have been a winnable, close game. So close.....just wanted the opportunity.

2011 will be great though - the Swans are on the up and up, no doubt about it.

On the plus side, I thought that was Jetta's best game. He tackled, chased, got plenty of touches, was a real threat when he was near the play, and he's still improving. Great pressure mark and goal late.

Kennedy superb, same with Goodes. It really hurt us not having Mumford fully fit, and he was clearely affected.

Shaw also was outstanding, I thought. Mattner, on the other hand ... he and Malceski, as good as they can be rebounding out of defence, are too often just weak defensively, unaccountable, and Mattner, particularly, chooses wrong options.

ROK also needs a good break.

I still feel the future looks bright, and not some vageuly distant future. With natural improvement I believe we're close to being a contender again, even to the extent we're in a stronger position now than we were finishing 2003.

Unfortunate end to a great season and two legendary careers, but it has been a great season.

That is exactly how i felt. Summed up perfectly how i was thinking in the 2nd half. Thought back to the Carlton game where i was shitting bricks (with good reason) but then they came good. Last night i thought we were the better side when we got decent ball and i thought they would stem the tide and win the last quarter like we have all season. Wasn't to be.

TDL as you said just didn't seem as comfortable without Jesse in the forward line.

Definitely Jetta's best game for the club. Shaw's last month or 5 weeks has been very good, let himself down in the 2nd half though. Silly free against Gia and then lost him in packs a couple more times to give Gia 3 for the night despite him not playing particularly well.

Not sure whether I agree that Bradshaw was "appalling" but White certainly covers far more ground away from the goals, and I do agree the contests he gets to help create opportunities for TDL, et al.

We certainly did not disgrace ourselves.

I think most people agree with you. I know I do. Was very surprised to see Jesse out of the side and let's hope next year Moore doesn't get the free ride he has got this year. I'm all for him being in the side if he can reproduce his 2008 form but he looks pretty far off it in this side that is getting younger and faster.

I'm not a Moore basher, I think he's tough and does have a lot of skills and footy smarts, but he's obviously no athlete.

He has benefited from being one of Roos' favourite players, but I have wondered for some time, with Roos going, is Moore as highly regarded by Longmire and, if not, is he a player who might be keen to look at other options? Or do we simply put him up for trade anyway?

Bevan was very unlucky to have missed last night.

And I agree it wasn't so much Bradshaw v White; I think the two of them playing would have been better all round.

Jesse was instrumental for the Swans in creating contests both near goal and up the ground, in all of our last 5 wins of teh season, even if he dropped too many marks. We missed him last night. had he have been there WITH Bradshaw, we'd have won no doubt IMO. Imagine how Jesse must have felt watching his team play and lose in such a way. Our forward structure was weakened without him there and players like TDL, who thrived off Jesse's work, simply could compete alone.

you guys did really well last night, and had us on toast in 2nd.

it was just the last 5 mins of the 2nd where you faded a bit to give us 2 goals, and the momentum and a bit of belief that got us back in the game

and poor kicking for goal in 3rd didnt help either - the last quarter could have gone either way - its just the luck in footy

i was happy the dogs made a guard of honour to send off kirky after the game ! that was good

Grundy did have a poor game but Barry was very good after having his best year since 2005 and coming second in the Coleman.

Thinking back to five weeks ago, a good end to the season. Looking forward to 2011.

He seems to be a sacred cow for many Swans supporters who turn a blind eye to the plodder's major inadequacies.

I predicted he would be the one player that would cost us the game last week, and the board was squeling with Grundy defenders.

On a big ground, he was able to be isolated and exploited by the Dogs and he cost us the game.

The truth hurts.

Agreed, Bez. Grundy had an ordinary game, but not an ordinary year by any stretch. He's come a long way, and on his efforts in previous clashes, I was looking forward to him playing on Riewoldt. He's beaten Roo a coupla times recently, from memory.
