What will it take to make peace? U.S at the start were demanding that Taliban would hand over Osama Bin Laden But now I don't think they will just accept that. Taliban I don't know what they want so yeah WHat will it take?

They said that, but then when the Taliban said "Sure, but we've got a couple of basic conditions." they saw the opportunity to blow **** up getting away from them, so they then declared that they wanted the whole of the Taliban brought to justice.

The way it will end is either with a lot of people dying, or with a lot more people dying. Or with the US growing up and mounting the covert operation that Bush originally mentioned...you know, the speech where he said there would be no instant results?

I guess the public wanted blood, so now they get it.

So you are saying that all chances of making peace is now gone?

They gave the Taliban the chance to hand over Bin Laden. They didn't and the Yanks made good on their word

You'd like to think that people would learn from the past wars, and see that it is not the answer. But to the same extent it seems that the US are in a bit of a paradox, if they keep bombing, then pro talaban propaganda will increase in strength. And if they stop bombing, the terrorists will think they have won.

I've got no idea how to end the conflict... but hopefully people in positions of power will be able to end it with a minimum number of lives lost

For a good while, yeah. US aren't going to back down any time soon, and I don't have any faith in the Taliban surrendering or the US bothering to go and fetch them instead of just bombing.

The people in charge all want war, thats the problem. Bush needs to be seen to be doing something. Howard has an election. Everyone wants to toady to the US to get those `preferred trading partner' deals.

So, we're at war. Yay. Here's an analogy.

The US is one of those big short-tempered blokes. Some guy in a pub has bumped his beer, causing it to spill and he's pissed off...and he wants a fight.

Instead of being the good mate that tells the US "He's not worth it mate. Settle down and have another beer", we're shouting "GO FOR THE FACE!!!"

Except now there isn't a bigger bouncer to throw them both out on their arses to sort it out outside.

Gee, I read the header of the thread, and figured you meant Mantis Vs. Frodo and Asgardian:D

Was gonna say I know what will finish this, but I don't reckon Mantis would agree to the stipulations;) :D

Im hoping America will stop bombing during Ramadan next month. Maybe if they do that, both sides will quiet down a bit and there may be a chance for negotiations rather than bombing
