Apologies if this has been covered before.

Although this is very speculative, I'm wondering what people think Hird will be able to achieve at the Bombers over the next 5 years.

As a follow up, what would you regard as a pass / fail (A, B, C, D or E)?

It's all about development.
Couldn't care less if he finished bottom for 3 years straight if he won a flag the year after.
Think he'll get about 8 wins, 10th-12th ish next year.
What happens from there is the test; I don't know & can't predict: if we manage to snag a gun as a free agent and one or two of our midfield kids really bed in, we'll be well on the way. If we can't, who knows.
I don't think (going from recent history) that finishing bottom 4 one year precludes you from winning a flag at some point.

This is like throwing darts over your head whilst blindfolded. There is no possible way anyone can make any judgement whatsoever before the guy has even coached a game. Even after one year it will be too early to tell.

Don't know about most, but too many, and I think they'll be slightly disappointed.

I think we'll be about where Dees were, not really in it but a mathematical chance until late.

I don't think they will make the finals his first couple years, but they should if they draft some decent players with a defensive side

I honestly think he'll have very little success over his coaching career at Essendon in the next 3 years. After that who knows. I think he's got all the attributes for a good coach, and in particular he has a) a brain, b) a brilliant footy brain, c) leadership, d) respect of his players and can inspire them to play for him and play to their ability.

What he doesn't have and what is out of his control is the current list, which in my view, is a genuine bottom 4 list at present. I think Essendon are in for a lean period and can hope only to get games into youngsters with potential (of which they have quite a few), and to pick up some good draftees.

After 3 years anything is possible.
