This is not a thread to discuss Corona virus per say but what would be the repercussions for the game if the AFL had to call off a season for any reason ?

Interested to hear your thoughts
A lot depends on what insurance the AFL, and/or the clubs, have in place and the circumstances driving season cancellation. Quite likely a lot of clubs - at a guess anywhere from six to twelve - would not survive.
The AFL could be down a huge financial hole (maybe as high as half a billion dollars depending on negotiations; having to pay back/not receive broadcast rights money, still having to pay for ground contracts, etc) and therefore unable to assist. So much of the fallout would depend on the insurers and negotiations with creditors. Maybe it would be little, maybe it would be catastrophic.

I'm guessing the AFLPA wouldn't enforce the salary cap floor, and match payments, performances bonuses, etc, wouldn't be paid - but base contracts probably would still need to be. The head honchos at AFL House would no doubt receive a "stress payment" bonus.

Anything that caused an AFL season to be written off - other perhaps than certain grounds being unavailable - would probably cause Australian leagues (at national and local levels) of other sports to do the same. It seems unlikely there would be many people change from one sport to another in terms of attendance - international leagues that continued would probably get increased Australian viewership though.

High correlation between thread topic and OP's avatar. A good nuclear spill might cause more than 1 season delay.

They would give the 2020 flag to the Dockers as they would have won it ayway.
