I'd probably just go to this thread:

Normally I'm against the annual Carlton Richmond opener but as the Tigers are reigning premiers they should be able to open the season against whoever they want.

Therefore

Thurs - Richmond v Carlton MCG

Fri - Western Bulldogs v Brisbane Docklands

Sat 1:15 - Port Adelaide v North Melbourne Adelaide Oval
Sat 2:10 - Hawthorn v Fremantle MCG
Sat 4:35 - Gold Coast v Melbourne Carrara
Sat 6:10 - West Coast v St Kilda Perth Stadium
Sat 7:25 - Collingwood v GWS Docklands

Sun 1:10 - Geelong v Essendon Kardinia Park
Sun 4:40 - Sydney v Adelaide SCG

Not great for crowds but all interesting games.

If i had my way i wouldnt have Carlton playing the tigers in the opener but they will.

Thurs night
Richmond v Carlton(N)
Friday Night
Hawthorn vs Bulldogs(N)
Saturday
Geelong vs Fremantle
Gold Coast vs Adelaide (T)
Port Adelaide vs Collingwood (N)
North Melbourne vs Brisbane (N)
Sunday
Sydney vs Melbourne
Essendon vs St Kilda
West Coast vs GWS(T)

My ideal matches round 1 would be this below

Thursday Night: Richmond v Carlton- MCG - 86,732 :CH 7

Friday Night: Collingwood v West Coast- MCG - 74,523: CH 7

Saturday- 1:45- Western Bulldogs v Port Adelaide - Marvel - 37,021: Fox

3:20- St Kilda v Fremantle- Townsville - 6.006- CH 7

4.40- North v Sydney- Marvel - 23,574- Fox

Good round for crowds, and plenty of interesting games.Townsville would be a good place to open up the season for North Queensland. Not a boring start like this season. This is just one of the many round 1 thoughts that i have.

You don't want to give away too many huge matches because it'll be hype as it's round 1. But you need a few and I reckon there's some good match ups here.

Btw, Richmond and Carlton play annually on Round 1.

This fixture would see a significant increase to crowds as I have put crowd estimates for each match, while giving Essendon the first Friday night match of the season to celebrate Marvel Stadium's 20th birthday, up against one of the best teams in the competition, with a strong fan base in Melbourne and it includes 2 teams from different states. Port to launch their 150 year anniversary with a prime-time Saturday night fixture against one of the biggest clubs in Australia. Richmond to also unfurl their flag on Thursday night against the Blues who are due for a good year.

If I was in charge, the match-ups would be pulled out of a hat, rather than doctored by the AFL

Personally I think the Premiership team should start the season a week before hand and play the AA team from the year before.
Play it on a Friday or Saturday night a great tune up for all players involved with any $$$ made out of the game to be giving to a nominated charity.
Just hopefully Mr AFLX $75k man makes himself unavailable for the game.

But what if the some of the AA players are in the premiership team?
