Was it the hair thing?
Did we train the mongrel out of him?
Did he start to drink his own bathwater?
Never had it in the first place? (I thought he did.)
All of the above?
Something else?

It started with the hair
Which was indicative of the attitude

The kid is a fantastic player
Needs to reset himself ....
He’ll be back

Well, there's a lot wrong:
  • He's an outside player in a team that just can't get the pill.
  • He's down on confidence and not performing when he does have it.
  • He's been unable to switch his game to be contested/tackling when the tide is against us.
  • Possibly a bit of attitude.
  • He plays for the crows in 2018 so he's probably carrying 15 different injuries.
He'll get his head right and it will flow from there. Ratkins is class.

Atkins looks great when he is fed clean, easy ball in a winning team.

When we are losing and playing like crap, he doesn't get fed this nice easy ball. So his possession count immediately drops, because he can't win hard ball. Our midfield also gets put under much greater pressure, which exposes his pathetic soft unaccountable football and blatant unwillingness to go hard and tackle.

He's always had zero influence on whether we win or lose a game of football, but when we're losing, his flaws become so obvious it's hard to ignore

Spot on Coop,

he's not alone though. Due to our year, there are a few more in the same boat.

But given we have been losing the contested ball means he just doesn't get it dished out to him as much.

The tackling wouldn't be so much of an issue if he was still racking up 30 touches and 400m gained per game. Polec, Gaff, Whitfield and Lachie Hunter aren't hard nuts but they work a lot harder to get in space and rack up the touches.

His disposal has looked ordinary of late too. Hopefully this is the kick in the arse he needed.

As others have said, in a winning, open game he plays well. In nearly every game when the heat is on he disappears, and is sighted once players get tired and the game opens up.

Just needs to work harder. For someone who is up there in preseason runs he seems to spend a lot of time swanning around (not as bad as CEY).

Work back into defense more and get those easy +6s

Great thread. We were all raving how we stole a player like this, were praising our recruiters and the he coloured his hair. Just history now.

I still think he could be one of those players that hangs on until his mid 20s and then finally puts it all together. Most teams have them.

We know he has the talent. Just needs to up his intensity and gain his confidence back.

He's pretty much constantly in our top 2 for KM run per game, so it's not exactly that he needs to work harder, but he needs to be like David Mackay and be more willing to throw his body into the contest when necessary. At this point he's completely stopped even trying to tackle blokes.

Too soft, not willing to put in the effort on field. I don't see it changing but with an absolute rocket, it might.

Ah the hair excuse......

Anyway, hes not added a contested side to his game and as pressure increases he goes to water. I reckon we would get a late first, early 2nd for him if we wanted a trade.

Might be worth a look.
