whats going on with rusling

I was actually impressed with the mark he took and goaled from, because he was going back with the flight of the ball when he took it - It was something different from the typical "lead, mark and kick" that he had shown to date.

However, I do agree with one point that has been made in this thread: He has been overhyped. There is no doubt about that. Everyone who believed, or still believes that he has the potential to play Chris Tarrant's role in our forward line is completely ignoring the fact that he has shown NO ability to do so. He doesn't have the agility, the ability to react quickly, or the ability to get involved in the game that would allow him to play that role.

In saying that, it is not that I don't think he can be useful to us, but that he will probably end up being a Mark Williams-type forward who pretty much only leads and marks, if he ends up making it.

Only one problem with that! Malthouse has approached him & stated your the man to fill Taz's role... I would rather a one legged stevie wonder in our team that Rusling!!!

HE IS A HACK & THE SOONER WE DROP THIS GUY THE BETTER WE WILL BE!

1) He is a young, project player. He can't be a hack, because he hasn't had enough time for him to become one yet. He is still developing, and people have gotten ahead of themselves with him.

2) There is no chance in hell that Malthouse would have told him anything of that sort so directly. He may have said that with Tarrant gone, Rusling may have to fill the void, but he wouldn't have told him that he had to basically be the same player that Tarrant was.

Well looks like he has taken over from Tarrant as one of the main scape goats. He's only young and still inexperienced give him time.

Your wrong in an article in Heraldsun Rusling was interviewed & he quoted "Malthouse approached me & wants me to play the Tarrant role".

Project player huh?? Well he was picked up with our 23rd pick or so, I would like to think we would not waste an early pick on a project player!!

Oh wait, it Collingwood of course we would!!!

Uh - Many teams take project players in the first round.

Considering that Scott Pendlebury only played one season of footy before being drafted, he could be considered a project player. Just because someone is a project, doesn't mean that it is a waste of a pick.

The point is, Rusling was more athlete than footballer when he came to us, but he still has bucketloads of talent, and it is far too early to call anything on him considering that.

Bound for glory u should give the kid some slack....he has played like what....a handful of senior games, had a few shoulder injuries, comes from athletics background, and is only 19/20 this year? ....atm time is on him side so give him a chance...all he needs is some more self confidence by playing in the reserves and breaking into the side and playing a consistent number of games in the seniors....yes he has been overhyped but i wouldn't drop him considering his young and there are quite a number of people in front of him who deserve to be dropped.

Pendles played junior footy every year excpect for one year when he went to AIS for basketballl. He had a footy backround too.

As for other clubs picking up project players in round 1, well that doesnt make it right. I am sure I dont need to remind you of the players we could f picked up instead of Rushack!

i dont think matty lloyd is'nt an overly smatt footballer or overly skilled... but he has won the coleman..

All u guys are getting over-excited.. the kid has played less than 10 games...

do u guys really expect him to be as good as a fevola?

mick stuctures his team like armies.... each player has to learn his role... rusling is learning his role...

once the rest of the team gets the game plan in order and there are other "real options" up foward to take the heat off him, rusling will be taking marks on his chest with his opponents no-where near him in the distance...

FFS give the kid a break...

give him a full season in the big time..... imo im sure all u knockers will close your mouths....

HE IS NO GOOD, just except it.

Lloyd has no footy smarts??? lol

That is the worst thread I have ever seen,,, My god!!!

It didn't look like he had any heart in him.

He is a leading forward, it didn't help that the Kangas were pretty much getting half their team in the defensive 50.

How many single figure possie games have good forwards had? Look at both Roccas, Gehrig, Richo, Fevola, Tarrant even Lloyd. Especially, full forwards who are stuck in the square and especially those who basically just mark and kick goals are prone to crap games when the team plays crap.

so did RUSLING, he played for scotts college and regularly kicked bags including a 12 goal 16 mark performance.

i think rusling is going 2 be a gun in the future. i am a huge rap 4 the kid and i am little concerned that we the collingwood faithful are going to expect 2 much from him. on the other hand there were 1 or 2 situations where he could have gone in a little harder. i think that we are going to have a frustrating year watching him i.e. 5 goals one week nothing the next. but he will come good.

FWIW, I wasn't impressed with Ruslings efforts in that NAB cup game, but I'm willing to give him time.

There's no way he should play the tarrent role, leading up to the wings and kicking it back into the forward line, the kids a natural FF.

Someone mentioned earlier that MM trains his teams liek an army, everyone has his role. Ruslings role should be the leading FF. Travis can do the Tarrant role from CHF, leading up to the wings and doubling back but Rusling needs to sit in the square, preferably with Rocca beside him. Rusling needs to lead and lead and lead and the guys upfield need to be atuned to look for him and honor the lead when appropriate.

With Trav going up ground and Rusling leading hard towards the 50metre arc, Pebbles can sit in the square and make the secondary lead to 30 or take the contested grab in the square.

Someone needs to sit rusling down and show him tapes of Jason Dunstall playing at FF. Dunstall would have given his left nut to have the speed of rusling but he was nearly always in front when he led and while he was one of the cleanest payers at Hawthorn, he never let anything distract him from going hard at the ball or the man with the ball. If Rusling could harness half of dunstall's attack on the ball, we'd have ourselves a gun.
