This is the one thing I agree with. And it shits me. We're the ones wanting to play there, therefore we should be giving up a home game. It's arrogant of us to ask another club to give up a home game for us.
It's because PA have a contract with Adelaide Oval that states they must play every home game there, which will make it hard to find an opposition who is willing to give up a home game of their own

Meh. MElbourne tried this approach years ago with little success. The club received a half decent sponsorship with China Southern airlines.

Kochie seems to think this is his brilliant new scheme.

Also big Max spewed on little Tommy, which is also China related.
That's what St.kilda thought about Tasmania, hawthorn and now north proved otherwise

Why not sell that game to the club they play?

ie AFL schedule GC v Port China round 1. GC give up their home game. Port v GC round 18 at Adelaide Oval is nominally Ports home game but the gate and sponsor is Gold Coasts. Gold Coast Tourism would jump on.

No we still wanted Tassie just Grant Thomas did not want the extra travel.

There is a reason why St Kilda is pretty much locked in for being the tassie away team 2 out of the 6 times from now on.

You've played Hawthorn twice there since 2006 (Brisbane 7, Fremantle 5, Western Bulldogs 4, Gold Coast 4, West Coast 4, North 4) and at Hobart twice (Richmond, Sydney, West Coast 2 times each).

Is there any comments from the AFL about the future? It sure doesn't seem like St Kilda has been locked in in the past, and I'm interested as to why the AFL would now lock them in. All the stats indicate that Tasmanian (well, for Hawks games) fans want variety, crowd numbers start high with new visiting teams and slowly decrease as that team either slumps or just goes too often. North have been given variety and are getting big drawing clubs like Richmond on Friday nights etc, I don't see why the AFL would lock in St Kilda just 'because'.

The 2009 game was the 2nd highest drawing crowd ever but you were 18-0 coming up against the reigning premiers, hardly feel like it's suggestive of St Kilda being exceptionally well-supported in Tasmania. The 17k there this year is about what Hawthorn get when they play a Victorian club (18k v Carlton, 19, 15.5, 14 and 14k v Western Bulldogs, 16, 16.8, 16.3, 15 v North etc).

Sounds like a good idea to me but who knows what the fine details of the contract are.

YesMelbourne did some groundwork but it is a totally different approach by Port. Melbourne wanted instant results. It doesn't work that way. Port have gone in more intelligently and the CCTV deal is a massive bonus.

You wish, but sadly for you, you are wrong. More likely it will be played in 2018 though due to the tardy AFL.
Lets see shall we. First it was 2017. Then your Figurehead stood in a sandbox and said it was a great oval. Then there were whispers the game would be delayed. It wont be the AFLs fault. Maybe blame the State Government ;)

Maybe read this from the AFL and you might have an idea of what's going on ..

AFL Commission delays decision on 2017 China match
THE AFL Commission has delayed a decision on whether a game for premiership points will be played in China in 2017 until at least later this month.
At its meeting on Tuesday, the Commission received an update as to how preparations were progressing for the historic game that Port Adelaide and the Gold Coast hope to play in Shanghai next season.
However, AFL.com.au understands further details relating to the stadium and commercial arrangements need to be in place before a decision can be made about whether a game is viable next season.

The AFL Commission next meets on the day of the Brownlow Medal count when a decision might be possible ahead of the release of the fixture at the end of October.

Yes. And I said there will be no game. Delayed or not there will be no game.

This, asking a club to give up a home game and tell them to act as the away team is sheer arrogance.

If port want to do this then they should be the home team, sacrifice one of their own home games and compensate the Adelaide oval for it.
Port still think they're in the SANFL. Hasn't quite clicked to them that 'try harder' and 'Port Adelaide football' and 'Ryder is the missing piece' won't lead to 5,375 flags.

A country that doesn't give a damn about their own local sports was going to adopt a foreign team in a foreign league of an unknown sport?

It just had success written all over it didn't it?
China have recently started a big push towards ball sports within their country, especially soccer. If we can get a few of those kids and families into Aussie rules it could lead to big things.
