Wouldnt be suprised if james burke played in the bendigo league this year..James is a prety good player as well would be good in a league like the bendigo one!
Yer both the Burkes are on board at South and with those two along with Dayne Frew and Marty Shadbolt the Bloods will be quite strong up forward.

Just had a look at Flat write on up on the new Coach John Rombotis posted on their webpage and it said he coached Roxburgh to an impressive 6 victories in his first season there!!

Anyway hopefully he is a good pick up for the Flat.

Cant get hold of an Addy , my mail was Rombotis to coach , Marty Warry assistant and Ty Zantuck to play if he doesnt go to the Bullant's , great news for the Flat and the BFL if this is true . No doubt we will be hearing from our old mate Wazza very shortly .
Any truth to the Zantuck one Caveman ?

Happy New year guys ... back after a spell down the beach at Anglesea.
Correct OTM and others -- At Dower Park, Rombotis to coach, Warry to play and be assistant coach and Hamish Dahl to be an odds on cert. to re-sign with the Flat and withdraw from the Square I would say.
Strangely Rombotis altho not much older than Warry says he's only going to coach, not play. Very odd.
Both of them had a gallop with the Roy Boys in the AFL and Rombotis with Richmond and maybe one other AFL club. Not sure if Warry played with any other AFL outfit other that Fitzroy.Perhaps he did and prolly in the SANFL, too.
Warry says in the BFL he will play as a "crash and bash" midfielder and will take a turn down back. Wot's the betting they'll have some mates coming.
Hope Brooksie and his team have plenty of $$$$$$$ coming in--- they're going to need them.
Hamish Dahl has absolutely zero intentions of returning to kangaroo flat, he is extremely happy at Golden Square.

6 wins doesnt sound much but considering it was the first year Roxburgh Park had fielded a seniors team it was a great effort! They had to start a team from scratch!

Ok and what was the story in ''06'' did they improve or slide?
Have you met Rombotis Caveman?
Yes I have met Rombotis and in 2006 Roxburgh Park had 8 wins and 9 losses in EDFL B Grade. The standard also lifted big time in B Grade as there was plenty of new recruits which lifted the standard of the comp. I will give you an example of some players running around in EDFL B Grade.

Mark Mercuri (Airport West)
Mick Martin (Airport West)
Marty Warry (Tullamarine)
Robert Powell (Glenroy)
John Rombotis (Roxburgh Park)

Cheers! :thumbsu:

Trouble is though is that I have never played for Romsey. So I don't know why you would even bring them up!

If Kyneton played in the RDFL in 2006 they would have struggled to beat Riddell in the granny.

I'm sure most people on here would agree with me when saying that it is unlikely that Kyneton will never be a force in the BFL over the next two decades.

The junior system is poor, there is very little work in the area to offer recruits and they have screwed over far too many businesses to get adequate sponsorship to pay for Massina's wishlist.

nicholls that is the biggest prediction of ALL TIME. 2 decades, hahahahaha. As for the businesses "they" have screwed over, can you please provide us with some examples.

somebody quoted Rombotis and Warry on the EDFL thread as being "theives".
what are peoples thoughts on coach's living so far away from their club. 20-30 minutes up or down the road is not to bad, maybe even 45, but with Rombotis and Warry still being based in Melbourne does that not make life a bit tough??

Here's a useless piece of knowledge worth considering: Eaglehawk forward Matt Gretgrix has won a premiership every second year he has played football, ever since he was a junior in the under-14s with Charlton. Could this year be the year for the Hawkers?

Big call , but i think he's on the money . As for the businesses being screwed over, i have heard some very ordinary stories in recent times concerning some very unhappy sponsor's .

I tend to disagree with the standard lifting in 2006 the two extra wins would have been from Moonee Valley being relegated from A Grade to B Grade they were shocking. Craigeburn being promoted to A grade also would have hurt B Grades strength

Mate that is a fair call about Moonee Valley but your overall statement is wrong in my opinion.

Teams like

West Coburg
Maribyrnong Park
Pascoe Vale
Airport West
Tullamarine

They were very strong last year and lifted the standard of B grade. Yes some of the bottom teams werent very good but to still win 8 and lose 9 is a good effort! Feel free to go on the EDFL thread and ask if B Grade was stronger or weaker last year. I would be interested to see what they think!

Im off to Geelong for a few days guys so I will be back Monday!

GO FLAT!!!

The junior programs I was referring to was the KDJFL, which is of a very poor standard for the Under 11 and 13 juniors. When they graduate from that league it is a huge ask to go into the Under 15s.

As for working at numerous newspapers. I have worked at two and am currently happy at The Free Press in Kilmore.

As for my coaching of junior cricket. My theory when working with juniors, especially at Under 16 level when they are close to playing seniors, is to treat them like adults. I do not employ a 'win all-be all' attitude, but I teach the lads to play hard and fair. Some coaches do not agree with this policy.

++++

On a footy note, great to see Kangaroo Flat sign up Rombotis. Hopefully he can attract some good players and make the Flat a much more competitive side. I still pull out the old Freo v Fitzroy game on video from time to time and I still vividly remember Rombotis and Warry in the side for the Roys.

how can a under11's and under13's be of poor standard? they are only there to have a run around! most of 'em couldnt give a sh*t whether they get a kick or not.

Skills and development wise they are behind many of the local junior leagues in the state. And Football Victoria and the VCFL are both aware of that and are trying to address it.

No way did the standard improve - the EDFL B grade weighted the draw to help the crap teams. Roxy Park only played 1 of the top 7 teams twice and 3 of the bottom 4 teams twice. There is 6 wins straight away.

The only win of note was beating a team that finished 7th.
