Running Dog, Miles Davis 'Kind of Blue' is in my car at the moment, too - in the pile of discs on the passenger's seat. :)

 shameless irreverence. That's no way to treat His Milesness! I suppose we should be thankful that he escaped the metric police- Kilometres Davis just doesn't sound right.

If I haven't thrown them your way before, Sloan are the best of the bunch as far as the "east of Montreal" brigade go. Here's a taste:

I'd go so far to say "best live band in Canada," with the proviso that there're plenty I haven't seen.

Great live bands from the Maritimes, eh?

Saw their first ever Australian gig at the Corner last year. Fantastic. They'd had a scare with all their instruments being stuck in quarantine and noone left in the office to release them. They'd been doing the rounds of friends-of-friends to borrow kit, and even contemplated doing 2 hours of a cappella shanties before the instruments finally came through.

That clip is from the Danforth festival, which is just around the corner from where we were living in T.O. earlier this year. *snif* I miss Canada.

Great song - written by Gene Pitney. Bobby still tours the US and occasionally travels down under.

Yeah, not really my cup-o-screech rzom, but if you're into that, you can't really go past great big sea. I've seen them live a few times (initially against my will), and they certainly get the job done.

Methinks they're Russell Crow's favourite band too. (Aside from his very own Several Odd Pounds of Tripe)

tapitytap is crapitycrap

Running Dog - :D.

He had recently been in the disc changer, but I'd swapped him out. 'Twas in the C.D. cover, though, so proper protocol was being followed and appropriate respect shown. :thumbsu:

Going to see "Hunters & Collectors" Day on the green @ Yarra Valley. Really looking forward to it, been a while since Ive seen a band live.

I'll be there. Only ever seen Hunters at the MCG for the benefit after the bushfires in 09 where they only played a couple of songs. Can't wait to see a full set. VERY excited to get the opportunity.

I've been giving the Crossroads 2013 double live CD an absolute belting this week.

Standouts are:

John Mayer and Keith Urban doing Lennon's "Don't let me down''
Taj Mahal and Keb Mo doing ''Diving Duck Blues''
Gregg Allman, Warren Haynes and Derek Trucks doing acoustic versions of Neil Young's ''The Needle and the Damage Done'' and the Allmans classic ''Midnight Rider''....

and this standing ovation standard version of ''Gin House Blues'' where the roles are reversed and Clapton sideman Andy Fairweather-Low takes the vocals (and directs the band and builds the song brilliantly with false endings and pauses). Oh and Clapton cuts loose on the guitar when it's his turn.

Grogg you'll probably like a song about gin and the blues!:)

If I had CD's i'd go with:

1. Refused - Shape of Punk to Come
2. Brand New - The devil and god are raging inside of me
3. Bon Iver - For Emma, Forever ago
4. Radiohead - Greatest Hits
5. Bring me the Horizon - Sempiternal
6. At the Drive in - Relationship of Command

Honourable mentions:

Arcade Fire - neon bible
Glassjaw - Worship and Tribute
Arctic Monkeys – Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not
Bit of Bowie (The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars), Jeff Buckley, and Mumford and sons

Hmm. Brett33 (and this applies to many other posts and favourites) - I know of your Radiohead and Mumford & Sons nominations......

.....but literally have never even heard of any of the others?!?

I must be getting old! :(

That's the beauty of threads like this, Saintly31. You try out a few of these nominations on youtube.

You've heard of Jeff Buckley haven't you? Arctic Monkeys? I've heard of them and I'm almost as old as Horace and gokangas.;)

Fear not saintly. 3 of those have since disbanded, others don't appear on any radio station of here, and Bon Iver...do yourself a favour and give them a whirl. A few mates and I payed $60 for their gig in Freo a few years back. His album then won album of the year and tickets were selling for $260 a few days before the performance. After a few songs I nearly chucked my boxers on the stage. Never seen someone sing with such passion.

A lady near me was singing along...this close to committing murder...instead I just gave her the frowning of a lifetime!!!

Yes, that is a positive spin on it MrR, fair point. I like that, and will give a few a try (I don't have much patience though ,so they will need to impress early! ha)

Now you say it I think I thought I might have heard of Jeff Buckley, but thought he coached the Pies..... (rather than Nafan ;))

Well, maybe its the opposite then and i'm too young to know them in that case! More likely is I just don't venture out much with music so maybe need to!

OK mate, that makes me feel better also! Guess we all listen to different stations etc and down here in Tas its simply awful, awful radio.

Yep, that clip is noted mate (can't listen here at work) but will give Bon Ivor a spin later as suggested. That is pretty impressive so must go wel.......but good idea to keep the boxers on I suspect! haha

Nothing worse than people singing (terribly) around you at a concert is there? Absolutely infuriating...

Steady down Mr R. I know for a fact you are not quite of my vintage and neither is gokangas. According to popular opinion around here I was lucky not to go down with the Titanic.

Great clip MR :thumbsu: & with a name like Fairweather-Low, surely he should have been a founding member of Weather Report.

Also have an old mate who has the biggest blues and soul collection I've ever seen, with literally thousands of lp's who first turned me on to the genius of Dwayne Allman, so props once again my good fellow.

Keb Mo also gets the a thumbs up from yours truly and I remember getting a real appreciation of him after watching a blues roots doco in which Keb travelled back to visit some ancestors/relatives in Africa. Inspiring stuff.

Don't know if anybody here is into Bryan Ferry at all, but I love his music both solo and with Roxy. This is what I've been spinning today:

Which kinda led to a bit of a 70's kick that had me diving straight for another Clapton, the Aussie version Richard, just a brilliant songwriter:

Agree. I saw my favourite band play a few years ago and a young teeny bopper and her friend were screaming all the words. I pay to see a performance, if I want to see that garbage I'll go down to the local karaoke joint.

Agreed. Mind-blowing album.

(Quite a big fan of The (International) Noise Conspiracy, too. Reckon they continue to improve with each album.)
