I have Photoshop 6 which is great, and I know Photoshop 7 exists at the moment, I was wondering if it is better or if there are better programs out there.

Photoshop is pretty much the industry standard for photo manipulation - I like it a lot, though I pretty much only know about 5% of its full capabilities. I really only need it for a small number of tasks at work, and as a hobby.
Other good ones are Macromedia Fireworks (very similar to photoshop actually) and Paint Shop Pro. Photoshop Elements is not too shabby at all for basic stuff.

Photoshop is the best as far as the industry is concerned. I don't like it and don't use it. Paint Shop Pro isn't that good. Ulead's PhotoImpact is very good, it's the only one I use for anything, It doesn't stand up against PS but it's alot better than PSP. For pure text effects try Ulead Cool 3D and Xara's X3D. Amorphium is also good for simple 3D models and text effects.
Photoshop 7 is pretty good. The bevelling/embossing ie. layer styles seem to be much better, but I can't remember photoshop 6 much. Theres also a new filter, can't remember what It's called but it allows you to make parts of images bulge and stuff like that. Was that in photoshop 6?? Photoshop is an excellent program as far as I'm concerned, much better than fireworks, providing you know how to use Photoshops features...

Been using Photoshop since the early days of PS 4. Ouch.
But its the best image app out there and I can proudly say I know how to use 95% of ps.
The liquidfy filter was there in version 6 but was moved over into the filters folder for Version 7 which makes more sense. a lot of people didn't know that feature excisted on V6. Also has the band aid tool..which I haven't used that much b/c I tend to use the rubber stamp if I need to clone elements.
I would say PS is the best followed by maybe Fireworks. I would not use any other.

PS7. Great. The coolest feature I find is the healing tool, with the ability to clone parts of the image without messing with the texture/grain.

If you can get your hands on Adobe's "Classroom in a Book" you'll save yourself a LOT of time.

you can't go past corel draw.... er i mean photoshop.
Having checked out the example of your work... Why the hell do you want a 'better' program, it is clear that you have only just scraped the surface of Photoshop 6...
You'd be better off spending your money on a quality manual.

I have PS7 and elements 2 but have little knowledge of how to use either . I use paintshop pro 7 which is much more user friendly but has it's limitations, particularly when it's stacked up against photoshop.
