The Taking

Thought to take a chance on an obscure horror.
Still unsure whether it was worth it though. Ran a very long 76 minutes if you can believe that.

Won't be going back to it but the music/sounds were good. 4/10

Saw Thor: The Dark World today and really enjoyed it. The main storyline is far more epic than I anticipated but like the first Thor, it's got quite a lot of light humour which helps to reduce the heaviness. Thought the Dark Elves made for pretty decent villains. The had a distinct look and power that can trouble gods, but didn't stand out so much as to distract from the love and death stuff sub-plots. The film looks and sounds great too. Great colour and some pretty dynamic imagery.

Would give it a solid 8/10.

Thor: The Dark World. Basically as above, Thor will always have a tendency to get bogged down because of the mythology but this was a hell of alot of fun, Hiddleston as Loki is excellent and Hemsworth is Thor, that was great casting and it works in alot of ways. The only thing that doesn't feel right in these is the Portman/Hesmworth connection, just no chemistry there. 8/10

Sif barely gets a look in but her brief scenes with Thor have 100 times the chemistry.

Before Midnight - Theres not many on screen couples that have as natural chemistry than Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy and this is a great continuation from the first two movies. Not as good as Sunrise, better than Sunset. 8/10

Goonies - gave it another watch on sunday hungover. just a great movie i love it every time. Chunk is so funny. Just a great show i watched as a kid that i still get as much enjoyment from now.

Breach - saw a recommendation earlier and watched this based on that. Was pretty ordinary film i thought but probably went in expecting too much. I also just lose interest when characters are so churchy, it boggles my mind how people can be like that.

You guys are forgetting Kat Dennings :hearts:

Thor 2: Was pretty good, special effects were great and it threw a few twists in there which made me pay attention. Solid 8/10.

Bullhead (2011) - Has the same lead from Rust and Bone Matthias Schoenaerts who plays a similar sort of character. Film felt disjointed but had some interesting moments. All felt a bit elusive and was hard to piece it together. 6.5/10

Once Day In September (1999) - Have seen the excellent film Munich and this was a good documentary to build up knowledge particularly of the event itself; considering the film studies the aftermath regarding the Israeli response. 7.5/10

Not forgetting anything, unfortunately

Jamie Alexander> Natalie Portman>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Kat Dennings, she is gorgeous but she is way behind those two.

I'll throw in a third combo and say Jamie Alexander> Kat Dennings > Natalie Portman. Used to be a huge fan of Portman when I was younger but now I find her just cute.

Got around to seeing The Perks of Being a Wallflower.

Loved it. It's been a long time since I have seen a coming of age movie handled with such sensitivity. It was lie John Hughes meets Summer of 42 in the modern age. Beautifully written and very well cast.

9/10

The Foot Fist Way - Before Kenny Powers there was Fred Simmons, king of the demo. Pretty decent, runs in the same lines as Eastbound and Down. Probably love for the latter stopped me from loving it, but it has its fair share of moments. 6/10

Frances Ha - Greta Gerwig is ******* amazing. The movie is great because of her, and it moves on from just cliché hipster culture which is probably what people expect. 9/10

A fine actor who is plenty acknowledged. You're putting too much weight on the Oscars. I wasn't a fan of the middle part of his career but early on and the last decade he's put in some superb performances.

If anything he's overrated right now, certainly among the common movie-going folk (non-snobs?). I've always thought that the best of Leo and the best of Pitt would make a hell of an actor. DiCaprio does the outbursts and emotional stuff beautifully, but struggles to really convince in the quieter moments. Where as Brad Pitt will often border on terrible when doing the loud stuff, but the way he plays silences, looks and low-key moments is as good as anyone.

The Counselor: From the brilliantly twisted mind of Cormack Macarthy three words immediately come to mind: brutal, powerful, affecting. Think NCOM but ramped up to 11.

The dialogue is superb in this film & there is a moment where the protagonist is made all too clear of his crushing reality. Probably up there with the best speeches put to film in modern cinema.

Fassbinder and Bardem are superb as usual, but Diaz absolutely owns this one and Ridley Scott has really returned to form here.

See it. Now.

I rarely get to the movies nowadays, but this looks so good.
