Last night watched:
2 Guns
Pretty fun movie with Marky Mark and Denzel. Denzel just plays every role perfectly and had great chemistry with Marky Mark. Action flick about drugs and the cartel.
6/10

Prisoners
Movie about the kidnapping of two girls starring good ol Jake from Donnie Darko fame and Hugh Jackman with a goatie. Good flick runs 2.5 hours, but bloody good. 7/10

Sophie's Choice (1982) - Meryl Streep gets the points and is undoubtedly one of the best ever. Her commitment to the acting craft is admirable. Having said that the rest of the film was patchy and the tone set was a bit off for me and in the first hour it wasn't really that interesting. There was a great scene with the three main characters (their relationship is the focus of the first half of the film) with the Schumann piano piece but that's about all that interested me in the first hour and this group's dynamic. After that it did get significantly better particularly the scenes of flashback and recount of Streep's character's background. Most of the better scenes are later in the film with Streep. Didn't really like the lead character's performance. Kevin Kline was impressive and was great in scenes with Streep. 7/10

Wolverine? Much better than I could have expected and gave great depth to the character. 6.5/10

Gravity 3D: We know the visuals and production values to be first class but the script and acting really held this together.
Covered a lot of themes with ever so few words whilst hitting the right notes every time. 8/10

2 Guns: Saw it last night but have largely forgotten it already. Popcorn fare......just ordinary popcorn though. 5/10

Probably a few others since last post but nothing that has really grabbed me..

Man of Steel.

110 minutes I'll never get back. Movie actually goes 143 minutes but I just couldn't do it .
I'd rather sticks red hot pokers in my eyes than sit through that again.

For some reason they tend to make better Marvel character movies IMHO.
You're one of the very few who would believe that.

Batman and Superman movies have always been far superior to what Marvel have had to offer.

No I don't think he is. The quality of The Dark Knight Trilogy (Batman Begins notwithstanding, but I should probably leave that one for the overrated thread) gives the DC fans a good argument, but film for film Marvel is wayyy ahead.

Grave of the Fireflies (1988) - If ever there was a movie you'd want to see in a cinema this is it. Visually stunning. 7.5/10

We Need to Talk About Kevin (2011) - Every now and then you have a film that despite perceiving many things in it to be ridiculous and implausible you are somehow still engrossed. This is that film. Tilda Swinton is a top actress and delivers a great performances. Ezra Miller is one of the best up and coming actors. The kid actor is brilliant and creepy. Stylistically the narrative structure is a winner. It's a bit of a horror films really. It's just the content that seemed too perverse and I couldn't buy it. 7/10

White House Down - not bad if you don't take seriously. A bit of corny action never hurts.
Corny action which didn't take itself too seriously - silly but it knew it. Olympus has fallen was funny but it had no intention of being so.

Anyway - watched 2 guns, a 6/10 - pure popcorn buddy movie. Immediately forgot about the movie after watching it but enjoyed the ride.

Watched The Counselor yesertday. I went in tainted after someone gave it an absolute spray on Twitter calling it an utter pile of crap but hes a closet hipster so I didnt take it too seriously but still its hard to ignore.

I cant really say much without spoiling so I'll just say I enjoyed it but it certainly wasnt a movie that made me feel good inside. Didnt enjoy the lead actor although Pitt was enjoyable to watch it was great seeing Diaz in her role.

I wish we saw less of the lead and more of the other characters, or the lead role was cast with someone a bit more interesting. In saying that he did do a great job considering some of his scenes were pretty full on.

I particularly like the deliberate pause when in nam lieutenant Dan asks Gump and Bubba " are you guys twins" not long after the song "it aint me" by creedence was a backdrop. Considering the tasks given to Gump by lieutenant Dan (going down tunnels even though he was way to big for it)and the later references to racism from the black panther brigade. food for thought
yea really is a great movie. think i might watch it when i get home today. always worth a watch every now and again. as i think you said earlier, you always see something new every time you watch it.

I would dispute that, once you take into account their entire catalogues. There have been something like twice as many big-budget films made of Marvel characters as DC, and a hell of a lot of them are stinkers. Sometimes whole franchises with multiple films (Daredevil/Elektra, Fantastic Four, Ghost Rider).

DC has its own share of duds but I'd argue their hit rate is better - and when they've been done well, they've achieved something that the Marvel films haven't yet come close to. Singer's Superman, Burton's Batman, Nolan's The Dark Knight and Snyder's Watchmen weren't just smash hits - they're iconic films.

The real question in the next few years is how well DC will do at exploiting their stable, once they start churning out a similar number of movies to Marvel.

Michael Fassbender is an amazing actor, but the script and editing were flat which did him no favours.

Deliberate ploy to take the focus from the individual to the message probably ie; live or die by our choices. Preachy, but the vagueness of the script, the fact Fassbender never had a name.......
