I seen a bit of the new Thor movie and I laughed my ass off. "In the beginning was the darkness....oh and the dark elves...who lived in the darkness and thought hey this is cool this darkness... then came the light and the dark elves got all angry and shit saying, 'This light sucks, bring back the darkness'... So they went to war with Asgard cos those Asgardians really dig the light... cos they can see and stuff in it...But the elves lost... oh boo hoo... Revenge shall be ours!"

God who do they pay to think up this shit

A bit light on the laughs but worked well as a drama. The action didn't seem to match the tone like they previous two films and I thought it seemed almost unnecessary. The body snatchers plot also seeme rushed and not nearly as set up as well the NWA in Hot Fuzz. Would have liked more Pierce Brosnan as well. Overall it was pretty good and a bit different and I liked it.

I remember when it was released, the following Monday I had to facepalm several times when the extroverts in my class gushed about how much they hated it and how it was a really lame superhero film. Watchmen on film is no masterpiece, but that was just painful. Not to mention, the dude at the center of this hate called There Will Be Blood the worst movie he had ever seen. Ugh!

Gravity - Alfonso Cuaron gets a lifetime pass from me for Children of Men (and he directed the only decent Harry Potter movie !); Gravity showcased plenty of his mind-bendingly creative visuals and the sets were amazing - but I didn't like how there had to be a crushingly mundane back-story shoehorned in to give Sandra Bullock something to do. The 3D was pretty effective ...

if they were genuinely nocturnal creatures - the dark elves - surely light would drive them mental? you know what it's like, wake up in the morning (raise your weary head), draw the blinds and then BOM light cascades onto your eyes. you shut your eyes to limit the amount of light on your retinas. momentarily you feel blinded.

the elves know light renders them useless.

Captain Phillips - The ending was reasonably good but the whole thing was pretty laughable imo. I guess fitting that Tom Hanks was in it since he's suited to the comedic stuff. Went into Forrest Gump mode a bit there in the end too. To me a very average action thriller. 5.5/10

Recent movies I've watched in the last week:

Pain and Gain - Strange film, very over-the-top and silly. But I enjoyed it enough. 3/5

Stoker - Another different sort of movie. Wasn't completely on board with everything but found it engaging enough and Chan-wook Park films are always great to look at. 3.5/5

Pacific Rim - Pretty good film for shutting off and just enjoying some loud and fast entertainment. Not sure I was in the right mood for it but didn't hate it. 2.5/5

Others:

The African Queen - Did not expect such a romance movie but still enjoyed. 3.5/5

The Catch a Thief - Honestly, if I get to watch Grace Kelly I don't really care what else is happening. The good movie she features in here is a bonus. Classic Hitchcock. 3/5

Good Morning Vietnam - Was loving it until the twist, which I found a little unnecessary and distracting. 3.5/5

The Heiress - Great movie, a classic. 4/5

City Slickers - Highly entertaining. Loved the all-too-brief Jack Palance role. 4/5

Pain and Gain was a good movie, but very over the top considering it wasn't even really close to what actually happened. Good movie though, would watch again.

Watched Getaway with Ethan Hawke and my crush, Selena Gomez. The movie reminded me a lot of 12 Rounds (1-2) as it was based around completing tasks in set time from an anonymous bloke. Very similar, good movie either way.

Very good director, I actually rate the Harry Potter as the worst one done. Often surprises me when people call it the best.

I should re-watch it I guess.

I think you should. Personally, it's my favourite of the series but I wouldn't call it the best. What makes it stand out is the tonal huge shift from the childish first two movies to Cauron's third. It's when people started taking the films seriously as films, not just as adaptations of a children's series.

I can't really remember now but there were some parts that really irked me about it. Spot on though with the tone of it.

Prisoners - very good film. Sort of took me a while to link things during the film but it all tied in nicely at the end. Well acted and didnt drag on even though it was 2.5 hrs. very good flick.

Enjoyed it, great effects & I like the gritty feel & rank characters Blomkamp brings to his movies but obviously hope the planet doesn't end up anything like he portrays...or perhaps it already has, I don't get out that much...anyways only problem I had with it, & I say this as a Jodie Foster fan, was that the accent she was using just didn't work for me, really let her character down for mine. Other than that, had a fairly good time & will watch again - 7/10.

The Reluctant Fundamentalist (2012) - Currently reading the book not sure why but I decided to prematurely watch the film! It hasn't done that well with critics it seems and I can sort of see why as the "present" narrative is not nearly as strong as the flashback scenes or "past" narrative. I actually liked it a lot and the lead Riz Ahmed is terrific. 7.5/10

+1

Top movie. one of the best ive watched this year. was long but didnt for one second feel like it was dragging. Jackman puts on a great performance. 9/10 for mine. Gets an 8.1 on IMDB, not bad considering the greatest movie of all time gets a 9.2
