The Ridiculous 6, on Netflix.

It's a movie with Adam Sandler just being Adam Sandler and doing his thing. Has lots of funny actors in it who aren't really funny in this movie, but if you completely switch off and just watch it for what it is you might enjoy it.

I saw one of my all time favourite reviews for this film on Letterboxd:

"I paid nothing and I still want a refund"

Creed.

Yeah I liked it. Boxing scenes well shot. Not particularly deep but a few gems of wisdom from Rocky, Creed meets a pretty cute girl and the grittiness of Philadelphia is shown really well.

Maybe the screenplay could have had a little more meat in it, but one feels that perhaps they've left something for sequels.

Think I counted three actors from The Wire in it too.

3 stars.

I think they cut too many characters from Rocky's side of the story to make it convenient for him to train Adonis.

Also, the montage where he runs like 3 blocks around the slums isn't exactly the climbing the Philadelphia art museum steps.

And yet Adonis being followed and then getting fired up with the ATVs circling him was the moment of the film for me. It repped modern Philly so well - the whole film did - that if Coogler were to ignore it, it'd just be disingenuous.

Hate watching films on planes, and stayed away from a few that I knew I'd want to see on blu ray or whatever but did see...

Jurassic World - Not sure what I should have expected but felt like there should have been more to it? Thought they killed off the most interesting character way too early, and what the hell was Bryce Dallas Howard running around in freaking heels? Not really wondrous or scary but okay. 6/10

What We Do In The Shadows
- Easily the funniest film I've seen this year. I actually did want to see more, and the suggestions I've read online about wanting it to be a tv show are sentiments I absolutely would back. 9/10

Such a great movie. Just takes all those vampire cliches and turns them on their head.

The Martian - It's hard not to like Matt Damon. Pretty solid mainstream movie without really blowing you away.
Would've been nice if they went a bit deeper into the science of it all, but thats not how Hollywood rolls.

One of the best journalism films I've seen. The direction and acting elevates what could be dull and makes it enthralling. It's about the investigation into the Catholic Church sex abuse scandal. Keaton, Ruffalo, McAdams and Slattery are all great. But to me (and seemingly only me) the stand out was Liev Schrieber. A powerful yet understated performance. But they're all great.

Definitely worth seeing.

Sweet mother of Jedi, I feel hungover this morning.

Might have something to do with the three hours sleep I got before my phone started going ballistic this morning with people wanting to know "how was it?"

Now off to work mostly outdoors in 42 degree heat in what promises to be an absolute campaigner of a day...
