The Revenant. It's visually stunning even on a screener. Leo was great. The story line was a bit meh but it's not terrible. I can see why some people don't think it's that great and may find it boring (I do think it runs a little too long), but I loved it. 8/10.

Yup, but I fast forwarded through all the dialogue. Sex scenes were very frenchy (oh la la) - 5/10

Crimson Peak - A victory of style over substance. 6/10
Creed - Very well made but a touch too predictable. Overrated. 7/10
Peanuts - I can't be objective about this one, sorry. 10/10
Hateful 8 - Nice and comfy... just like your favourite sofa. 8/10
Sicario - Beautiful cinematography, excellent soundtrack, great performances. 8.5/10
The Force Awakens - Meh. 6.5/10
Insidious - Awesome! Loved Rose Byrne and Angus Sampson. Lots of nice scary moments. 8.5/10
Toe Tag Parole (http://www.hbo.com/documentaries/toe-tag-parole-to-live-and-die-on-yard-a) - Good documentary, even if it covers some well-trodden ground (life sentences without the possibility of parole). 7/10

Apologies if I posted all my scores already :(

Spewing. Gangs of New York on tv tonight and too late it is over half way through.
Should have recorded and watched later.
Was only thinking other day not seen that movie since saw years ago and wanted to see again.

The Ridiculous 6. Not sure what I was thinking. Surely it can't be as bad as the reviews said it was? It was worse. After 20 minutes me and my son pulled the plug. How was this movie ever made? Adam Sandler must have some very incriminating photos of studio execs.

We switched to Little boy. It's a great feel good movie about a naive boy so it has a feel like Pay It Forward. The outstanding performance is by the "little boy" Jakob Salvati, but big creds to the writer and director for constructing this little gem.

Not worth its own thread yet but Christopher Nolan has announced his next film will be "Dunkirk", based on a screenplay he and his brother Jonathan (Dark Knight trilogy) have written. Featuring Tom Hardy and Kenneth Branagh. Shot in a mix of IMAX and 65mm.

Always exciting when Christopher Nolan makes a film.

Halfway through watching Stallone's Cobra.

It is better than I remember but still worse than a flick made by Stallone in his prime during a time when action, cop, and vigilante films were having heyday should have been.

In The Heart of the Sea -

Was okay, seemed pretty authentic etc. harrowing tale and well acted but it just sort of felt a little dull. I think nautical themed movies may just not be for me. 6/10

What can I say, I'm an unabashed Tarrantino fan and I thought this one of his better ones for a while. great actiing by all concerned. Particularly liked Tim Roth as usual; Jennifer Jason Leigh and Snake Pliskin were also great.

What a disappointment. Too much unnecessary shaky hand held camerawork and extreme close ups. The film itself took a potentially powerful story and made it so utterly bland and safe. There's no connection with or investment from the audience. Which given the subject matter, is a significant failure. Key characters have no depth, there's no real message being gotten across, and no real sense of consequence. Hell a character dies at some point and everyone's just kinda cool with it. It's just such a disappointment.

Carey Mulligan is very good but not enough to drag the whole film up, but to be fair only really DDL can do that. Helena Bonham Carter is quality as ever. And Meryl Streep has only one scene and it's not even that good.

The film on its merits is probably about 3 stars, very middling. But given the subject matter and the potential in there, I'm bumping it down a level.

Zodiac. Really well made film with a super cast, Mark Ruffalo was brilliant I thought and Gyllenhaal as always nailed it in a different kind of roll for him.

Creed - 5/10
I'm a big fan of the Rocky series and have seen them all more than 5 times at least except for #5, but this was just flat. Really found it unnecessary to the whole saga and don't get why people are raving about it.
Doesn't hold a candle to that other recent boxing based movie and of all 7 Rocky films I'd rate this as 6th.

Anyone see Love?

Fair to say the missus and I were fairly shocked with not only how the movie started, but how it continued on for 2 full hours.
I think the shock value of seeing real sex on screen has long gone now that porn is so readily available. But it's still rare in a movie outside the porn genre. The problem is that even more than Shortbus which also depicts real *******, the rest of this moving is ******* boring! There are no likeable characters, the sex scenes go on way too long and the movie goes at least an hour more than the script deserved.
