Very mixed reviews around here for Hateful 8. Will check it out soon.

Anyway, just saw SICARIO. Man, the direction/camerawork in that night scene in particular was amazing. All the mains were superb. I'd give it 8/10. It's the best movie that I've seen that has anything to do with drugs in Mexico - not a genre that normally interests me.

GOOD DINOSAUR I saw last night with the kids at the drive in. Pixar's graphics are incredible now, some of the scenery may as well have been real life. The cartoonish looking dinosaurs (so they can sell more toys in the shops) seemed out of place but it is a kids movie after all. I think pixar's become pretty pretentious these days with their mandatory random 15 minute cartoon before their movies now and I think they need to go for more laughs for the kids too.

Good dinosaur has an original premise, but is then just a cross between Ice Age and Lion King, some scenes and characters were basically taken straight from Lion King. I liked the kid, Spot, he saved the movie from being mediocre (aside from the excellent visuals) 6/10

sorry for long post!

The fact people are watching and judging this film on screeners makes me cry. It begs to be seen in a theatre.
Must say that this screener is of a premium quality. If you haven't seen it, then you don't know.

I'd sooner watch BluRay on my system than watching a movie in the cinema, anyway.
The quality is much better for me.

Having said that though, I'll definitely go and see this on the big screen for the comparison. Could be amazing.

Going through a Found Footage phase.
Started with The Borderlands.......then, The Den......Home Movie and The Taking of Deborah Logan.
Finished watching The Devils Pass and Conspiracy already.

The Borderlands went very well. Quite creepy and especially so in the audio. Some chilling stuff going on and the ending was quite interesting. 6.5/10

The hateful eight:

Typical Tarrintino dialogue and score, I did enjoy some bits of the film however it felt very much the same old same old.

4/10

Straight Outta Compton:

They certainty glossed over a lot of their history which is understandable as its a two hour flick, I really liked it as it explained the culture and backdrop to why they made their music.

**** Da police!!

The Reverant: 6/10. Bit disappointed by the story. The first hour was very slow, but after that it picked up. I didnt love Leo in it, and thought he has done much better, which'll is why he'll probably get an Oscar for this. Some stunning locations however throughout the film.

Concussion: 8/10. Took me a bit to get used to Will Smith's accent and whether it worked, but the movie itself is captivating. Pretty eye opening for contact sports in general, let alone just the NFL.

I've been to the cinema maybe once in two years.

Nothing beats the comfort of your own home.
Variety is good. Mix it up a little.
I'm just not particularly impressed by the big screen quality, unless of course it's IMAX.
New equipment will change all this soon enough and the quality of the projection should really step up............Well, it has to.

Off-topic: Went past an empty ex-Blockbuster store today and I thought to myself......I'd hate to have been the last person to have taken out a franchise.

Yeah it stands up. A masterpiece. A proper modern epic.

5/5
I need to rewatch this. Big time investment, but s'good

The Lobster - utterly ridiculous and absurd, but that's the general idea. Hilarious and unnerving. Good to see something completely out of the box. 8/10

I saw The Lobster when I was in London a couple of months ago. It tails off a bit towards towards the end, but the premise is brilliant and it's pretty funny.

'Bob' was an inspired touch! :)

The longer the better. I love a good movie analysis that still doesn't spoil anything.

Spotlight
was terrific.

I know the cast is getting a good shout out but Shreiber is the star here, for me.
Not a word, glance, stare wasted. Perfect by way of performance but also by character. As interesting an individual as I've seen for some time.
7.5/10 for the movie. 10/10 for Shreiber.
