Man I saw the Hateful Eight at the Astor last night, but then reading Tarantino and co showed up at the Sun in Yarraville got me all disappointed like...

Anyway, wouldn't say I'm a big Tarantino fan, but I've enjoyed all the films that I've seen of his, and this was no exception. Great cast, Leigh gets top billing in her Oscar category (by default, because I haven't see the others, but it'll be a tough beat). I do love me some one location films, but Tarantino could probably cut down on his liberal use of the n word.

I did love the interplay between the characters, but I actually could of used more. Nice to see Tim Roth bounce back strongly from the Fifa propaganda bullshit.

8.5/10

then the rest in no particular order although haven't seen H8 yet.

& for those that haven't seen JB, well you are missing out, easily Tarantino's best work for mine.
Yep Jackie Brown is a great film, Keaton and Robert Forster were great casting choices. I haven't seen the Kill Bills, they've never appealed to me for some reason.

The Revenant - really enjoyed this and didn't think I would from the commercials - 8/10
The Hateful Eight - started off well then turned into a boring 3 hours - 4/10
Concussion - was ok, interesting but a bit boring at the same time - 5/10
Alvin & the Chipmunks - took the kids to see it, had low expectations and was just a bit above that - 3/10
Joy - terrible/boring - 4/10
99 Homes - great story and sad how bad the US can be to their own - 7/10
Sicario - was looking forward to this and didn't disappoint. Only problem is it never went to the next level of excitement but still good - 7/10

You reckon Mel Gibson could get a run in a Tarrantino film, he loves Australian cinema and Mad Max and he likes to give actors a shot that have been forgotten about. Would be an interesting choice I reckon.

I'll say this about QT.

I don't dig his thing. But he has a thing. He has a style but he's not afraid to shake it up. He has techniques but each film is not a repeat of the others. He puts a lot into the story and his characters. He makes films that are worth being films. And he clearly loves and cares for cinema itself. He makes films that demand to be seen in the cinema. The only other person I can really think of like this is Nolan.

I don't dig his thing but I respect what he does.

Switched over to 'Rush' on Ten after the cricket, am being reminded how ******* stunning Alexandra Maria Lara (the woman who plays Niki Lauda's girlfriend) is. Remember first seeing her in 'Control' (Ian Curtis biopic, where she played the "other woman"), and have liked her ever since.

Pretty rare that I like a Ron Howard film (although 'The Paper' is one of my favourite films of all time), but I'd say 'Rush' is probably one of the best action films of the past 30 years, and definitely one of the best racing/car films ever made.

Bridge of Spies - meh, just couldn't get interested in this and found my mind wandering on several occasions.
Was top shelf as far as acting and production quality went but I just didn't get drawn in enough to care. The missus was riveted to her seat though. - 5/10

I'd be interested to see how people look back on The Force Awakens in 10-15 years, I mean it was pretty well made and acted, but it was a little boring, and nothing really happened. I saw it on the opening night and I probably need to watch it again to pick up some of the more subtle things but it was a blatant rip off of the original Star Wars, I don't know if that was meant to come off as nostalgic or whatever but it just seemed cheap to me. Cinematically stunning and well acted but I can't say it really grabbed me, or really felt like a "Star Wars" film. 6/10

Had to watch Trainwreck (Amy Schumer) with the missus. I owed it to her after some of the films I make her sit thru!

It...wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, thought she'd be drunken crazy the whole time but not at all. Hader held the thing together. Brie Larson looked cute.
