Its like when the say tbe script for the first iron man was thrown out day 1.of shooting. Hollywood love to tell a good story anyway

Don't think you can compare an indie film and Iron Man though. You're being cynical for the sake of it; if you had some proof... sure. But I'd take the director, co-writer & casts words at a bit more face value.

$50,000 budget.
$140,000,000 budget.

One has a fair few more producers investing in the assurance that it makes a killing.

I am being cynical but not just for the sake of it. Its a fairly complicated movie the directors writers at least in their head knew what was going to happen at all times. People exaggerate things all the time. You have certain key plot point and exposition that surely werent made up on the spot. Like the thing about the physics book that explains the concept of Coherence. Then also the idea for the glow sticks used to identify people. Some character stuff and dialogue sure could be made up and changed as going along. The core points had to be ready to go.

Here you go. A quote from the director on Wikipedia.

Byrkit told an interviewer for Spinning Platters, "Well, we came up with the premise in my living room, where the movie is shot. A couple years ago we were trying to think about what a good low budget, or no budget, movie would be. And, since we didn't have any resources, I had to think of what we actually had. We had a camera. We had some actors who were pretty good, and we had a living room. So we had to find out how to make a living room feel like more than just a living room. And, that led to a whole Twilight Zone type story... I was craving a more naturalistic type of dialogue, where people overlap and it's very messy, where people talk more like real humans talk. And so, we planned the story for a year, including the twists and turns and reversals and betrayals so that we had a really tight puzzle – almost like a fun house that we knew we could lead the actors through."[12]

They kept the actors in the dark at best but that doesnt sound unscripted to me. Not to mention a 5 day shooting schedule.

I was not having a go at you I just dont believe them.

Maybe my fault for my wording; but I would have thought it's pretty obvious that the unscripted is referring to the actors and dialogue. No s**t the the writer/director knew what he wanted. You realise a story-plan is literally NOT a script.

If I've sounded rude in anyway back at you man, not having a go! I don't convey well over text at all!

Free Solo - 9/10. Blew my mind. Absolutely crazy s**t. Freaked me out the whole time and I knew how it ended.
saw this on the weekend and you're right, it is mind blowing.

i'm genuinely surprised that he's still with the girlfriend. it felt like she was trying to get into his head which could so easily get him killed...that and the fact that she's too scatterbrained to hold a rope properly.

Get Out; good quality film, ostensibly a horror but more just creepy and interesting. Good performances, good script, solid 8/10.

Ghostbusters 2016; I get that there was no need to reinterpret it with women but the backlash was ridiculous. It’s a decent comedy, enough good jokes, loved the cameos, maybe 6.5 out of 10. Hemsworth is particularly good.

Prospect (2018) which was pretty average, its a small budget Sci-Fi and it usually feels like it. The cast and acting is probably the strongest part of the film whereas I didn't think there was enough original story to keep it going and so there's a lot that feels familiar. Its based on a short film and I wouldn't be surprised if it works better there. Worth watching but as a time filler.

Green Book - 9 / 10 I really really liked this film. It held me for the entire film and I am a sucker for an ending like that giving me the feels.

I've always been a sucker for older sci-fi movies, I've seen most of the well known ones and so the last few months I've been working my way through some lesser known ones, most lesser known for a good reason.

The man with the x-ray eyes (1963) - I enjoyed this one, its low budget (directed by Roger Corman) and very pulpy but it has a strong cast, including Ray Millard, Diana Van der Vlis, Harold J Stone, John Holt and Don Rickles and for most of the movie it uses its one idea well enough.

The day the Earth caught fire (1961) - This has been the pick of the bunch so far, again the central actors are good but what I really enjoyed was that it doesn't follow the scientists causing/fixing the end of the world scenario, instead its about the newspaper reporters investigating what is happening. The story is ok but what was most interesting was being reminded just how important the newspaper era was just a generation or two ago. The need for multiple editions each day as new information was brought in, the army of workers needed for printing and distribution.

Crack in the World (1965) - A bit of fun but it hits every stereotype of 50/60s SciFi. The female lead starts the movie with the much older head scientist after choosing him over the younger scientist who is basically Indiana Jones the Physicist so one guess how that plays out. I said a few minutes in that the movie won't be complete until the lead actress lets out the damsel in distress scream and I was just starting to think that they might avoid it, then right near the end she slips while climbing out of an elevator shaft and I was able to complete my bingo card.

There were a couple of others, I started Journey to the far side of the sun (1969) but never finished it. I wanted to finish up with something a little different and so I started Solaris (1971) while on a short flight but decided to wait and finish it on a decent TV screen.

Exterminator 2 (1984)
An amazeballs soundtrack of cheesy casio-sounding electro synth-funk grooves along while vigilante Johnny "The Exterminator" Eastland hangs out with garbologist mate Be Gee in between flame-throwing petty criminals to death. Ripper shots of New York breakdancers and hilariously camp gangsters in roller skates, lipstick and crop-tops. Brilliant example of the "normal guy in strange suit killing people for revenge/just because" genre. 9.5/10

La notte degli squali aka Night of the Sharks (1988)
David Ziegler receives a CD-Rom(!!!) full of incriminating evidence leading to a stand-off with the local mafia. This rather uninteresting premise is made not actually any more interesting with the addition of a half-arsed "man vs. fish" subplot involving a tiger shark named "The Cyclops" which is somehow capable of stealing boats. Wonderful new-age/electronic soundtrack, lovely Italian birds with their tops off and some of the best/worst props & set design I've seen this side of PornHub, sadly undone by a script written by a 12 year old. Still enjoyable tho. 7/10

The Mule (2018)

Wow, Clint is getting old, but he's still got it. This movie is actually engaging in its way as we join the journey of a 90-year-old man who's coming to terms with his past mistakes, family issues, and suddenly finding himself dirt poor and homeless. A job offer 'to just drive' seems to land in his lap and though he's naive enough to do it no questions asked, it seems to be the answer to his financial problems. Of course, once he realizes he's ferrying drugs he doesn't stop, and so he finds himself caught between the ruthless demands of a drug cartel and a persistent DEA agent (Bradley Cooper) trying to catch him. The fact Earl uses his ill-gotten gains to help his family and community just adds to the charm of the film. In trying to redeem himself from past mistakes, Earl's willing to drive that extra mile. 8/10

Same as the bullshit about Boba Fett surviving that Sarlaac monster in ROTJ.

He died so let him die in peace ffs.
No that’s different, Boba Fett got eaten by something that takes 1000 years to digest things.

Forbidden Sun aka The Bulldance (1989)
The island of Crete (aka Yugoslavia) is the setting for this coming of age/ rape revenge drama that bravely interweaves ancient Greek mythology and gymnastics. In one scene a woman in black underwear puts a bull mask over her head- no idea what that was supposed to mean. An equally baffling ending sees the 1984 olympic gold medal gymnast somersault over a stationary animal in slow motion. Nonsense. 3/10.

The Philadelphia Experiment (1984)
A WWII army experiment inadvertently sends two naval officers straight into present day 1984, where one of the officers manages to seduce the beautiful Nancy Allen by car-jacking her at gun point on his way to saving the world (probably not the best way to find a partner in 2019 but you never know). Standard time-travel fare with the mandatory "getting to know the modern day!" gags such as the protagonist wondering aloud how a movie star could become president of the United States of America... ******* lol. Nowhere near as good as the later Spirit of '76 but worth it for the incredible (and dated) special effects alone. 7/10

Netflix movie. Mad Mikkelsen plays a Hitman being retired by his employers as they have a retirement policy when they hit 50. They are also scumbags that don't want to payout the pension he is entitled to, so have a policy of killing off all their hitmen before their 50th Bday. Of course, Mikkelsen, 'The Black Kaiser', is the best of the lot, so it is no easy task. His attempts to find meaning in retirement after a life of killing are interrupted when other hitpeople arrive to finish him off.

Simple entertaining action movie that tries a little to paint itself as something more via quirky visuals and side characters, but it's central stock is never in doubt. It is brutally violent and a bit of sexual content too. It's a movie for adults. It is good but maybe drags a bit in some scenes, could have afforded to lose 20 minutes or maybe more off the run time. There is some nice black comedy moments as well. Some of it didn't make sense, possibly as I didn't give it 100% watching, but wiki cleared a few things up. Probably a negative I guess. I can recommend it to action fans wanting to pass a few hours watching a movie that doesn't care if the kids or partner is around. It has a good twist at the end that wraps things up nicely so the movie does finish on a high.

7.5/10

Bullet to the Head

Bullet_to_the_Head_Poster.jpg

Like above, simple MA action movie with a little bit of buddy cop and noir, but it knows exactly what it is and never tries for more. A hitman and cop team up to uncover a conspiracy which has left both their partners dead. Stallone is good although clearly ageing, he plays a bit more of an angrier character than usual by his own standards which is nice. Plenty of language and violence and some gratuitous background nudity. It flies along with a plot only serving to bridge action scenes. Christian Slater pops up for reason unbeknownst to me, and Jason Momoa plays a pretty good baddie. More of a beer and popcorn movie that is aware it's pretty unrealistic (for example, one of those movies where gun silencers are really abused).

Reading up on wiki it seems Stallone had a lot of power in the production and that is often his undoing, he moved on the original director as the version was darker. Stallone is a passionate guy but needs to be reigned in. Also reading up on wiki I thought this was straight to video but apparently it did his the cinemas. Who knew!

7.5/10

The Dirt - Was a fairly good movie but like most biography movies they glossed over most stuff due to time restrictions. At least we know it was closer to fact than Straight Outta Compton that tried to paint Cube & Dre in a better way with plenty of fiction added to the story.

Runs too long and is a little too cartoonish for me, also steals from john wick a little still entertaining in parts though i'd give it a 5.5/10

Microcosmos Le peuple de l'herbe (People of the Grass) aka Microcosmos (1996)
Critically acclaimed documentary that is actually just close up footage of insects. Features one scene where a beetle literally rolls s**t up a hill. Almost as dull as watching paint dry, save only for a bit where two snails * each-other. 1/10
