Atomic Blonde.

I've seen action-thrillers with more action in them than this that I was bored shitless with. I thoroughly enjoyed this one. No annoying actors, decent dialogue and plot, good soundtrack, and top notch action sequences. 8/10.

If you're gonna make an action flick, cut the crap and go MA or R rated unless you're doing an action-comedy like Rush Hour or Bad Boys, although more dark action-comedies like Deadpool would be nice.

Lights Out

A competent but nothing special horror movie. The one gimmick it has is certainly very effective for some great visuals and good jump scares. However this movie plays all its cards far too early and there's essentially nothing in the last 80 minutes that aren't in the first 10. The backstory into the creature/thing/ghost was also suddenly dumped on the audience way too quickly in a single exposition heavy scene. OK but could have been better.

5.5/10

The Fugitive

I hadn't seen this for quite some time but it's on Netflix now so jump on! An absolute classic thriller with brilliant performances from Ford and Jones. Nothing more needs to be said really.

9/10

Princess Mononoke

One of my all time favourites and just had the urge to go back and view it again during the week. Still as good as ever. A beautiful and captivating epic.

9.5/10

Annabelle: Creation.

Starting with a positive, it is MUCH MUCH better than Annabelle. I suppose that's a tick for them, but Annabelle was pretty horrendous.

Onto a negative, it's not quite as good as Ouija: Origin of Evil which was a nice little surprise considering how weak the Ouija movies beforehand were.

In the end, I can say that this was just OK and I think that's just because movies like this are beginning to have a hard time being inventive. It's not a bad movie but nothing was really effective and that's because you can see it coming... these films have been done to death.

The acting is strong, all the young girls in it are fine, the youngster who absolutely killed it in Origins of Evil is in this and is pretty solid again though she doesn't have the same presence.

Dr. Strange

After the TV series 'Hannibal', maybe it's a Mads Mikellsen thing; but I had absolutely no idea what was going on, but could not resist the visual magnificence of it all.

I just saw "The Big Sick".

Omg, I laughed, then I cried, then I cried from laughing so much. For those who wanna know the joke here it is:

I've always wanted to.. you know discuss 9/11 with someone.. like you. Um.. ok.. well it was awful, a complete tragedy. -pause- we lost 19 of our best men that day

^^^ that, is my type of humour. I almost lost it in the cinema, I had to make a conscious effort to stop laughing. Kudos Big Sick, kudos.

8/10 for the movie, overall.

The Darkness - Stock standard horror movie 5/10

Black Butterfly - thriller with several twists but ending was lame 6/10
I love doing those at home- you gotta at least watch 3 b2b.

I also try to match the genres together. :$

I saw Annabelle: Creation today and while I really liked it - it was scary, well-written and well-acted - the ending left me confused.

Baby Driver - nothing short of good the whole movie. Not Edgar Wright's best movie though. 7/10

War of the Planet of the Apes - was much less an action movie than the previous movie (which I believe is the best of the series), very touching finale. 7.5/10

Sing Street - still the best movie I've seen in the last 8-9 years. Hits every note perfectly. 10/10

Titanic: Mini-Series.

I think it was done by the people who do Gosford Park. It had Jenna Louise Coleman and Toby Jones in it.

By about the 4th episode, I got a little sick of seeing the same scenes over again, despite them being from different perspectives. It might have been a little more tolerable if more of the characters were interesting but overall, this was a pretty boring way to spend 4 hours.

It's a little sad that they spent so much time with focus on the boring characters, because they did have a few interesting little stories in there, but they went unresolved or their endings were completely unsatisfying.

I'd suggest just watching the Titanic movie if you want a fix... at least the last hour is entertaining.

I can't recall the last movie I went to see more than the one time (probably back in my Hoyts days when I got movies for free- The Full Monty was my record i think with 5 viewings) anyway.... TBS, and Baby Driver are two movies I really do want to see for a second time.

Also have re-watched some old favorites recently.

Primer - This film gets better with re-watches, awesome
You might like Carruth's other movie - Upstream Colour.

It's definitely not for all and even if you like arts movies you would need to be in the mood. It's slow and confusing with little dialog but a couple of days after watching it I'm still thinking - what was it all about?

Thanks for the rec
I have already seen it though lol.
Think I'll need to watch again as that went over the head a bit.
Liked it though not as much as Primer :)

The Wall - little Doug Liman helmed war movie set just after the Iraqi war (I think) essentially a cat and mouse game between an Iraqi sniper and a US spotter and his sniper. Pretty tense little ride, reminiscent of Phone Booth but probably lacking that something that really made Phone Booth pop. Aaron Taylor Johnsen gives a good (not great performance) and John Cena does what he needs to. I enjoyed it and found the irony of the good vs evil thing and the commentary on the wars in the Middle East interesting but it could have been better. 7/10
