Compared to BD which is 90+ mins of bedlam and tension.

DRIVE had a bit of a " smirk " about it IMO , don't get me wrong i liked it but this was a blast.
No need to explain NSW- I totally dig. I was like OMG THIS MOVIE IS SO ****ING AWESOME 10/10 OMG when I first saw it.

Obviously it's not a 10 but it's a hella lotta fun. Wanted to catch it a second time (as with the Big Sick) but missed both of them damn it.

Because they think people who enjoyed the original will pay to see it. They're not going to bother remaking a crappy film that bombed.

Yes thanks I get why they do these things - cause 'money' - the original is still a perfectly fine movie so it's the laziness, unoriginality & lack of risk taking of it all that shits me, but that's just Hollywood being Hollywood, so no real surprises there.

The Big Steal -1990

I have been watching a few Ben Mendelson movies lately which led to thinking of this little aussie classic.

Sadly it was harder to find than usual as for some bizarre reason it has never been released on DVD as far as I can tell.

Anyway onto the movie itself. Suprisingly it still holds onto most of its charm and is still pretty funny.

Sreve Bisley is very good as the slimey used car salesman Gordon Farkus.

I have this as my 2nd fav aussie comedy behind The Castle.

I think my second to The Castle is probably Gettin' Square. Sam Worthington before he makes it big. But the absolute gold in it is David Wenham playing a heroin addict called Johnny Spit.... him smuggling a kilo of smack in some tiny short shorts is one of the funniest things I've ever seen.

Timothy Spall and Gary Sweet very good as well.

The Big Steal was the first ever video my family rented- using my grandmothers borrowed VCR when she was in Greece! :D

Good memories, great film.

Bleak and then some more bleakness.
Didn't mind the pacing at all, but it would understandably throw some people off.

It didn't quite grab me the way it did you, but that could have simply been a mood thing.
Certainly worth the watch though.
Had a bit of a last of us vibe to it. I do enjoy bleak films though haha.

mother!

Balls-to-the-walls madness. Not Aronofsky's best but it strikes a comfortable middle ground between his character-focused stuff like The Wrestler and Black Swan and his more out-there pseudo-philosophical/biblical lunacies like Noah and The Fountain. I think it's hilarious that by making this too, he's essentially comparing himself (and artists) to God, even if it's not a flattering or favourable comparison, it is audacious as all hell.

I liked it a lot but then I have a lot of patience.
